My lights suck
Very knowledgable forum
I knew I picked the correct one haha, I think I would like to purchase OEM HID/ballast/light housing and bulbs from a 2006.
Does this mount straight in and plug right up?
I assume this will set me back at best 900..

well, if you have stock OEM HID Housings (03-05 style) let me know when you want to get rid of them for the 06+ style. I may take them off of your hands, even with a hazed lens.
I will have to check tomorrow to see if everything is stock. I put the car on the lift today and forgot to check out the damn lights lol.
Once you figure out what you have/what you need, shoot me a PM. We carry OEM and aftermarket so I can help either way. Also, like someone else noticed... If your headlights are hazy, you can polish them up and light output will get a TON better. My roommates BMW has hazy lights and his headlights are almost worthless.

Yup, that is about what you are looking at. That's a lot of money to put down when you could possibly put down 75 on a 55w HID upgrade and get more light.
Since you already have the stock HID lights, you can just get a 55w HID kit and install them into your stock projector housings.
I have been wanting to upgrade my lights for awhile now. I also have the stock HID and they are not that bright at all. I installed some 55w HIDs into my Tahoe and they light up the road very nicely. Brighter than the stock 03 Z for sure. I did have to upgrade the housings on the Tahoe to a projector so that the HID would have a nice cutoff. But on a HID Z, it's not an issue.
I haven't done this yet, but from the light output on the Hoe, seems like a much better choice than spending a grand to upgrade output on the Z.

For the Hoe, I got a 55w kit from DDM. They have a lifetime warranty on their HIDs and I haven't had any issues with my kit yet. When I get a set for the 350, I will get mine from them just because I have heard good stuff about them before and had no problems with mine so far.
For maximum light output, I would go with the 4500k color for the whitest and brightest. The kit will come with new bulbs and ballast. So just take out your old bulb and ballast and replace it with the kit. It was plug and play on the Tahoe and I'm guessing it will be the same on the Z. I'm not sure if the ballast will mount up to the stock location or not, but that would probably be the hardest part of the swap.
It comes out to about $85 shipped to me so I'm guessing it will be similar for your location. To me, it's worth a shot before spending at least $800 on some newer Z lights.

Wattage
Bulb Type
Bulb Color
HID Harness
Error Eliminator
Adaptor cables
wattage: 55w
bulb type: D2R (I think)
bulb color: 4500k (whitest)
hid harness: none (shouldn't need these because car is already hid ready)
error eliminator: none (no known errors so far, so I don't think they're needed)
adaptor cables: none (just for H1/H7 to 9006, so not needed since we got D2R)
Double check the headlight bulb type before you order, but I think we got D2R.
That is how I would order if I was ordering right now. But like I said, I haven't done this on the Z so you are the guinea pig on this one.

Thanks a lot for this information, it will plug and play yes from DDMtuning?
Break your piggy bank and get yourself a set of OEM 06+ projector lights in good to perfect condition. Retrofit the lights to STI-r clear lens. Run them with a set of OEM German high end luxury car bulbs (ex philips 85122+, 85122, ultinons 6k, or osram cbi 5k) and call it a day,na f that call it a few years. Yeah your going to put down a few benjis for the project but your Z will appreciate it's new vision and will love the outcome. Been there done that.
