Gauge Illumination wire input
Well I finishing up my gauge install and came across the illumination wire and wanted to confirm a question I had. I have blacked out gauges so I would assume I would need light to be constant so having the illumination wire hooked up would render my gauges unreadable unless having my lights on so with that should I just leave that wire alone or tap it into with either the 12v battery or 12v ignition source?
Thanks
Thanks
I am not sure if I understand your question but tapping into ignition wire means there will be power only when you have your keys in the ignition position or when the engine is running. Tapping into constant 12volt provides power for as long as there is power from your battery. You could drain your battery.
The gauge has 4 wires,
Power(12v battery)
Ignition(12v when ign is on)
Illumination(12v)
Ground
Since my gauges are smoked I would need light to be constant so I would assume I either leave the illumination wire alone or "T" with one of the other 12v sources.

thread failure. You guys cannot put together a coherent post/thought/sentence/question.
Who the hell calls it the illumination wire? You mean the purple one? The dimmer/brightness wire?
Basically what it does is when you turn your lights on the gauges dim because it is night time(or dark conditions) and you do not need as much light to see the gauge readouts and it will make your whole car glow.
Do not use the stock rheostat connection. Wont work.

What is there not to get, I have this wire and call it that because that's what they are referred to, my question is simply do I or not wire it up this particular wire as I'm not sure if it only dims or shuts power to the light. Simple really its the answers I keep getting that are not straight forward. All the rest are common sense just haven't dealt with a dimmer/light switch/illumination what ever you want to call it wire before.
you dont even need it hooked up if you dont want to. i dont have the dimmer wire hooked up on my dual wideband guage no need for me personally i have it set so its not blinding at night but i can still see it easily during the day.
