Default Wipers hitting below window. click click click shoot me

Look at me, I don't fully inspect everything before buying a car. So my wipers are making a clicking sound because they are hitting the trim below the window. When they are off, they are sitting about an inch below the window. I can manually move them up and down an inch and a half when the are in off position. This leads me to believe that either something is loose, or broke. Could be that little gear in their that sets them in place...possibly stripped? I have read that some cars you can tighten the bolt itself under the dressing cap to actually hold the blades in place with friction, can you do that on the 350z? any thoughts?

thanks in advance

Ok didn't have time to examine issue today. But I did notice something else, when they come up, the driver side is slightly over shooting the window. So it is going down too low, and coming up too high. I am thinking not an alignment issue. They also stay on when the car is off. have to manually turn them off. Looked online, cant see anything about this being a feature of the 350z.
yeah. Awesome.

Are the wiper arms on the correct sides of the car?

Just measured. Driver:20 Passenger:18. Like I said in the first post, when they are in park position, I can physical move them up and down a couple inches. On my Altima, I can`t. When they are off, the arms don`t move.

They stay on when the car is off? I'm thinking someone did some work to the wiper motors and didn't reinstall correctly as they're getting constant power rather than switched.

I'm not sure whether the wiper motor can have the extra travel like you're describing or if someone installed the wrong one.

I can't really blame you though for not checking the wipers function... I've never tested them on any car that I've purchased either.

Man, it is getting to the point I suppose I just need to take it to the mechanic and bite the bullet. Wiring issue, possible wrong motor....man.
