Default Issues with Key

i dont know if its been covered or not because i cant seem to find it
but today i couldn't find my original key so i got my new one(Ace hardware) and it wouldn't start the car. At first i thought it was the car itself so i found my original key and the car started. I tested both keys and looks like the ace one wont start it. it will open the door and fit in the ignition but when i go start the car it just cranks. when i compared them the Ace key was same length just thinner than the original. Could that be the possibility and i would only need to buy a blank Nissan key or Ace made a bad key?
thanks

I guess you've never read your owners manual. The keys are "chipped", i.e. there is a transponder embedded in the key plastic part that the car looks for when you try to start it. A new key along with all your old keys has to be reprogrammed by a dealer.

Have you programmed it? Each key has a chip that is programmed to your car's computer. It looks like you just got a key that had the Nissan logo on it. Get a OEM from your closest Nissan dealer

call a local locksmith and ask them what they charge to program transponder keys... its generally much cheaper than the dealer
