I have a 2005 35th anniversary edition I recently purchased. It has a JP aerodynamics body kit on it which was professionally installed by the last owner. I noticed though the spoiler was not properly prepped before painting. I got a quote of 600 to refinish it and repaint it. I was having a 3m clear bra installed and the installer quoted me 100 to carbon fiber wrap it 3M product (5 year warranty). Do you guys think that would look tacky? The paint job on the spoiler is quite noticeable but I'd rather not put another 600 into the car and don't have the stock spoiler. I will try to post a picture later but the spoiler is quite large.

$600 to paint a wing? Keep getting quotes, that's ridiculous

I'm not a fan of fake CF wrap on exterior parts, but that's just me

 

do you really like that spoiler. with that amount of money you have other brand new
painted options out there. if you do then do what waizzz said. forget about the fake carbon fiber on any kind of spoiler you get

Also, with vinyl wraps, if the substrate is bad, then the vinyl job will be bad.

 

Here's a picture. You can kinda see in this photo on the side of the spoiler how below the paint you can see the crappy texture of the spoiler. It looks really noticeable on the back of the spoiler too. What do you guys think is a fair price to prep and paint the spoiler? The 3M guy said the carbon fiber wrap would hide the texture of the spoiler because it is quite thick. They also have other options than carbon fiber (stainless steel, brushed aluminum, as well as just about any color, I'm not sure if any of those would be any less tacky though ha). The car only has 16k miles on it so I'm trying to keep in mind resale as I may only keep it a year or two. The paint guy said alot of ppl don't realize you can buy low quality body kits/spoilers but by the time you pay the labor to prep them before paint, your in as much as a high quality one.

I would remove the spoiler for something that looks good.

 

I'm trying to keep the investment into the car to a minimum. I don't mind the current spoiler just the paint job on it. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago and already have spent over $2k on it lol. ($1650 extended warranty and $500 3M clear bra)

 

what we are saying is, the money for the paint job will get you a far better looking car. your car looks good but would look even better without that spoiler. then throw in some spacers and a little drop as money becomes available. 2000.00 in 2 weeks. welcome to the club. lots of us have put in more than we paid for the car. what matters is whether or not it makes you happy

 

That spoilers hideous. Ditch it and get a blitz for around $450 painted and shipped

That spoiler is ruining the look of your Z. I would wait until you have the funds to make a change.
That 600 dollar quote may include refinishing much of the rear and clearing much more than just the spoiler. Metallic blend requires that much of the rear be touched, If they are just going to paint the spoiler go somewhere else.

What paint would they use. Go into your local autobody supply and you will see that GOOD paint, clear, reducer and hardeners can add up to a signicficant portion of that quote.
