Unhappy 05 Black Z Paint Issues

I wasn't sure if I should post this on here or in Maintenance & repair so if I made a mistake, MODs please move my thread. TY

On to the issues....

I bought my 05 Z about 1 1/2 years ago. The car came with a newly swapped engine from nissan ( prev one was an oil eater). Car also had some (what appear to me as rock chips) that were painted over with pen-paint very crudely. The car at the time had 51k, today she reached 70k. Those spots looks like absolute crap. I was wondering if I wet sand, pen paint, buff would this resolve my issue, or is a new paint job needed ( mind you the car is black and yeah..)

I am currently at work so when I get home I will take some pics of the issue spots and post them here for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't try to pen paint again. Get a repaint, you'll be much happier with the results.

A repaint would be the best thing I could get. Though I imagine the cost would be around 4-5k for a good paintjob and not that mako birdpoop they call a paintjob.

4-5k is crazy imo. I paid 750 for a full repaint and it came out really good and no cheap paint either.

Damn... Maybe I am overthinking things. Isn't a repaint removing the paint then priming, paint and clear? A collision shop charged my fiancees insurance 1800 for repaint due to break fluid spatterin on her car from an accident that happened on the lane next to her, and that was her hood, bumper and side pannel.

Yes. Also taking apart the doors, fenders, etc and painting inside. At least that's what we did on my Z.

When the car was done, it literally looked brand new compared to the 8 year old paint.

yeah I figured. But 750 for all that...seems like a good price but I always figured it would cost more.

I still have like 2 years to pay on the Z + the maintenance of the car, so for now I will prob just fix what I can, then when its paid I will repaint.

he probably means 750 for HIM, materials.
there is no way I would ever EVER repaint a car for 750, we charge starting at 2500 (small cars). with everything taken apart prepped the right way and buffed afterwords.Using top of the line Standox paints and clears.

Sprayglo/Maaco's $600 paint jobs is a quick scuff, half *** mask up and sprayed with a single stage.

OP If those rock chips bothered you so much as to make a thread, covering them back up wouldn't fix it. Get a repaint so you're happy. and you get what you pay for, in anything labor related.

This is more like it. I kind of thought 750 was on the sidejob side of pricing..
Yeah I know maaco is crap. The dick chips don't bother me THAT much, I am just worries now since I just washed the Z and found one of them has rust on the fender. I will sand that section then paint it. Last thing I want is car cancer.

make sure to use a good etching primer first before 2k primer. if you are real **** and want super protection, etching>epoxy>2k>base>clear.

^ Thanks, I have heard of this method before, so I shall be doing this as soon as I get back from Miami this weekend. I washed her yesterday and the spots look mehh. I am not as much worried about looks as I am about them getting car cancer.
