I've used 3D and I wrapped my roof with 4D. It was done 6 months ago and it's still holding up well. It does tack up super easy making it a royal pain in the *** to work with. I cannot comment on anything else Mr.Sparco said because none of the other stuff has happened. I can say this though... I used two different types of Cheap China 3D vinyl. One was ordered over two years ago when I first heard about it, and it did not have much flex if u didn't heat it up, and it had a much larger pattern. The second was and small sheet I ordered a few months ago to wrap my laptop and it was thinner and really easy to conform to any shape I wanted it to. I guess u just get lucky sometimes.

All in all you get what you pay for. $20 to wrap a roof is a win in my book. Ill use steam to remove it. Just don't go trying to wrap your car with it cause it will suck *** so bad. It can be done cause I've seen people do it, but it's better to stick with a name brand company for better quality and less *** pain in the end.

 

How does the 3M stuff look compared to the 4D stuff from China? I seen the 4D in person and it looked really nice. Does 3m only have the one black CF wrap???

 

3M could have changed since I last saw it but when I did it looked like the regular 3D just made out of the better materials and adhesive.

 

Wrapped my black Evo X white 2 years ago. My black 350z can also be seen covered in Hexis white, was done around 2012. It's wrapped in blue now.


Trust me when I say 3m is the Volk of vinyl wraps. I've wrapped cars in the double digits now, a couple of them from this forum.

I do not do this for a living but have wrapped 5 of my own cars as well. The adhesive on the cheap stuff will separate from the vinyl from re-positioning, and is more likely to leave residue once you remove it. The 350z roof is one of the easiest panels to wrap so you may not have experienced any of the separation. Complete a seamless non overlapping bumper wrap with the cheap stuff then come back and report.

Just look under google images and youtube. You'll find everything you want to see because that's what I did for you, googled it.

 

I'm using the 4D Chinese wrap on my door switch cover. I had to use a heatgun to make it conform to curved. It's really thick so it's hard to work with if you're using a hair dryer. So far so good, let's see how long it lasts.

 

Hey all so I'm strongly considering wrapping my hood,roof and side pillars in carbon fibre (having it professionally done not doing myself) anyways after doing some digging and talking to some friends in detailing shops I've heard that it's a nightmare to try and clean or keep clean anything wrapped apparently it's really bad for staining I was told as well? Just looking to see if anyone else has experience in the department before I make up my mind.

Also what kind of wear should i expect from a professional grade wrap on a daily driver?

 

the placed that wrapped mine used 3m, and it looks good but even though i only use microfiber towels on it, i scratched it some washing it. just be careful washing it

 

Alright thanks, any experience with staining or recommended cleaners or anything like that? Living on the water bird crap can be somewhat of a problem for me , and I've been told that's the worst for leaving a mark/stain on the wraps especially something like carbon fibre.

 

i only use ONR to wash my car, after i had the vinyl put on, i put a layer of wax on top of it... but it is gloss black, not sure if you could do that on CF wrap

 

Carbon vinyl has very fine grooves in it, when bird turd gets on there and it sits for too long, you can't wash or buff it out.

 

alright so I guess I'd be best off with a gloss or matte black finish then? or is it possible/would it work to use a clear coat of some sort to seal/prevent the issue with a CF wrap?

 

any kind of coating on it will make it stiff and harder to remove.

Depends if the brand carries the color I want. Intense blue is available from 3m and Avery. 3m's version is slightly darker.

Very nice.... I'm thinking about going with Avery. Keeping the pearl white theme but in a Satin finish. I'm going to start with 10ft and if I'm able to wrap the front bumper without much issues then Iill be good to go and get the rest. Just don't want to waste too much money if I'm unable to finish the job.

 

Quick question is it best to use a heat gun or a hair dryer when working with wrap? I dont own a hair dryer and my heat gun seems to have grown legs and found a good hiding spot. ( really ive moved at least 6 times since the last time ive used it) so ill need to purchase one or the other. Heat gun seems like it might get too hot though.

 

Best not to use either if you have no experience.

Orange peel is actually factory paint. The skirts are wrapped.

Just placed a order from Metrorestyling. A 5'X10' of Avery Supreme Satin Pearl White... This will be my first attempt at wrapping my bumper. If I'm able to tackle this job ill order the rest.
