Default 350Z interior door handle removal

Hi,
It's a wonder. I cannot find any information about removing the black plastic where inner door handle is located. I'm talking about this always-scratched black, little plastic part :

Does anyone know if it's removable from the door panel or do I have to remove whole door panel? I want to paint this piece of crap but I want to do it as good as I can.
Also, does anyone know how to remove that aluminum plate from the top of shifter stick? I tried and I only damaged leather (no biggie, I'm sending it for restoration anyway)

I have these tools but they're too "fat". You sure the entire thing pops out?

i remember mine popping out, but been a while. try pulling on the door opener (like exiting the car) and see if you can get something behind there that way and gently pry.

No removal of door panel required.

Let a little google using "site:" operand reveal the true nature of your task, young padawan... and let Obiwan VO show you how:

I just removed and painted mine not long ago and you indeed have to remove the door panel. There are screws holding it down on the back of the panel, once you remove the panel you can't miss them.

Hmmmm.... maybe it's my early senility but as I THOUGHT I recalled, the plastic pieces come off to access the door panel retaining bolt but they come off without? Dammit, now I gotta go look.

Time elapses.....

And yep, Steel's right. There is a little piece behind the door pull itself that pops out to expose the retaining bolt but the main piece you want to paint IS part of the door handle/vent assembly. Ooooops....

Sheesh, wrong twice in two weeks. Used up my quota of mistakes for next 20 years.

Door card isn't that hard to remove. It can be done in 5 minutes.
