It's not just that - they're not compatible electronically, either.

Default confused

Thanks for the responses...but I'm now more confused...:-)

First, what is a waterfall, in reference to the Bose Radio's and second, a Nissan tech told me they should interchange, as the plugging arrangement is identical on both units and the only difference in functionality is the lack of a cassette player in the '06....
I'm not questioning your responses I'm just not sure what they mean....given I went to two separate dealers, asking both the service dept's and parts departments about interchangability; no one seemed to have a definitive answer, and they had no suggestions on how to get an answer...which is why I asked here.

Apologies, I actually mis-read your first post as one being Bose and the other not Bose. Thus, I have no further info to offer.

Waterfall is the upper dash that houses the headunit and the triple gauges. The reason they are not interchangeable is that the opening for the radio is different between the years. That's the reason why the dash kits are different if you are installing an aftermarket radio. I wonder why the dealership could not confirm that.

It's plug and play if you replace the everything else to the newer style (I did) why are you asking anyway?

The physical specifications are identical for the 2005 Bose radio and the 2006 Bose radio so I can't see where the "waterfall" would have any impact....I asking because I just want to get rid of the 2005 Bose and it's worthless cassette player,,,(the 6 cd changer is screwed as well) and I have an opportunity to get a 2006 Bose for not much. Eventually I'll upgrade but I haven't seen anything that's that appealing, so i'd use the 2006 Bose as a placeholder for now...

Well if you are certain that the physical specifications are identical go ahead and swap then. At least someone confirmed the wiring for you. Just report back to prove us wrong on the waterfall. I have played with that before and ended up with gaps but maybe I did something wrong

I figured that's what was going on, they mount lower, use different brackets and are a different shape. Out of all people I could tell you the 100% truth since I've done the swap the the new style interior twice....

thanks Dark,
I appreciate your experience and response...it does appear that while the plugs are similar,,as is the wiring schematic, with the exception of the steering wheel circuit, the lower corners of the 2006 Bose are rounded, verses the squared off corners of the 2005 Bose....my final confirmation will be checking the nissan part numbers of the bezel(s)....(which probably should have been my first point of inquiry)..:-/
