You will def want to use a high quality conditioner at least once a year. Any leather becomes paperlike when it gets overly dry.

jhc, have you had personal experience with them? Can you comment on quality and fit?

I am not sure if my solution repairing worn seats fits your budget, but here is a link describing recovering stock seats with a quality leather product.

The problem you describe is based in the fact that so many car manufacturers and leather seat manufacturers us PU leather (Bicast leather).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicast_leather

This leather solution is prone to surface degeneration, as shown in your pictures.

Personally, no. I keep my seats hydrated and have been fortunate. I've seen other posters here who have seen good results tho. As always read reviews before dropping your dimes.

If you have a fully-leather seat covering, you treat this with a leather conditioner. If you have a PU “leather” covering (Bicast leather in some definitions), a leather conditioner is not enough. You need to treat the surface with a dual treatment product that provides both leather and vinyl treatment. PU ( leather) is prone to cracking if not treated with a vinyl and leather conditioning product.

That's the issue. I've been doing some initial research and some people say things are great. Others say the fit is lacking. Tough to tell what's good. I don't expect perfection, but a good fit and quality is what I'm looking for.

Like anything else. They'll say $150 and you say $75. Never bite at first price, it's like paying retail for jewelry...

I have leather seat covers from interior-innovations and can't complain for the price. Fitment of any cover is also dependent on the install so take your time if you decide to do it yourself. I did it with zip ties and haven't had any problems with them breaking for 3 years now.
