Default Carbon fiber hood info

Hey, I've done some searching around the internet but I haven't found concrete answers to my questions when it comes the the 350Z or actual experience. The questions I had are can you use hood dampers on a carbon hood? Do you have to use hood pins?
Also anything I should do to the hood prior to install like clear coat or any other coatings necessary?
The hood I got it the Varis hood which is pretty good quality of that matter, TIA for any insight.

i wouldnt trust the pressure needed to close the hood with the dampers. i have seen many carbon pieces turn yellow, i would do clear with uv protector in it

You should be able to use traditional hood dampers and most CF hoods will have OEM latching hardware. Assuming it does and assuming your OEM latch is in place and functioning as intended than you should be fine w/o pins.

your OEM hood is likely 5-10lbs lighter than a wet CF variant … fyi

Most people automatically assume carbon fiber = lightweight, but plenty of materials will beat its weight: aluminum (stock hood) and fiberglass tend to be lighter than carbon fiber. It's strength-to-weight where carbon fiber shines.

That's why I was asking because I don't trust the carbon hood to be ok long term as my dampers do take quite a bit of force to close.

BTW to those commenting on the weight, the Varis hood is one of the only ones that is lighter than OEM. However my goals here were looks not weight savings.
