Default Another headlight post but COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

Okay here recently I’ve been modifying my headlights I have an 04 base Z so halogen style. I’ve sense swapped into some hid’s out of an 05 did all the wire everything’s good. So the other day my buddy brought over a headlight from a newer model Nissan Versa/Sentra I think but he asked if we could do a retro fit with it. Now this things is a good 3inches wide an probably four long so my question to all you tech Z owners out there what would happen if I wired in two hid ballast for two different hid setups off one headlight?? I want to make a headlight with low oem hid an then have the new projector as my high beam. An yes I’m aware of bi-xenon lol!!

Left oem hid right the best* lol

I think what you're describing is what's called a "quad-xenon" setup and yes it is possible.

I've done quad retrofits on a couple vehicles. As long as you have the wiring correct, it should work out for you. You'll just need two pairs of projectors and two pairs of ballasts to power them.

Here's a quad retrofit I did on my G35.

And my retrofit I did on my Z where I installed a projector in the high beam location.

Just to follow-up on my last post, if you're thinking about retrofitting a 3" lens projector into your stock housings, there will likely not be any additional space for another projector.

When I did my retrofit pictured above, the lower projector is a 2.5" lens and that was an extremely tight fit. Not only that, but you're going to need to recess the projector into the stock housing so that the lens does not contact the headlight lens.

This causes another problem of mounting the projector far enough back so that the lens will still seal properly, but the rear of the projector will be extruding out of the back of the headlight housing which will need to be sealed with a boot or something similar. However, real estate is at a premium in the engine bay and if the projector is too far back, it will make contact with the wheel fender liner,

So yes - is it possible? Absolutely. But if this is your first retro, I would look into other options and if you're dead-set on having a dual projector setup, I would go with the stock HID D2R projector and a 2.5" or smaller projector in the high beam location. Maybe something like the Morimoto Matchbox, but their output is kind of weak sauce.

That’s awesome I didn’t thank anyone had tried it yet!! So how did u wire in the high beam? I mean did u just wire straight to the high-beam circuit or do u run ur own wiring??

Yes it was my first time doing a retro fit an it was definitely interesting. I’ve still got some work on sanding ian painting the housing n mounting one of the running lights

this is with the lens on I’ve got a new one waiting til I’m finished to open it up.

Good for you trying this out being your first retrofit. You definitely did not choose an easy first project!

As far as the wiring goes, I did everything using different relays. Since the lower bi-xenon projectors are using a 3000K HID bulb, I have them wired to essentially be used as fog/all-weather lights but retained the high beam functionality. I have a rear JDM fog light installed in my rear bumper which is wired to a separate switch located between the two seat warmer buttons in the center next to the parking brake handle. So basically, here's the functionality of everything:

5500K HID D2R low beam OEM projectors illuminate with the factory stalk on the steering column.
When you turn on the high beams using the steering column stalk, the low beam projectors illuminate and the retrofitted lower projector also illuminates with the internal "flapper" activated.
Regardless of whether the low beams or parking lights are activated, the fog light switch trigger is wired so the front fog light/projector will illuminate with the rear fog light as long as the car is in ACC or ON.

IIRC, I used an H4 relay for the HID projectors/ballasts and tapped into the OEM high beam 12v+ trigger wire so that the high beam would come on. I also spliced in the OEM high beam wire to the "flapper" for the projector. I used a 4-pin relay using a fuse-tap for the fog light switch running to the low beam pin on the H4 relay in order for the rear and front fog lights to come on independent of whether any other lights are on.
