Default Feedback wanted on CF Veilside Ver. 1 lip

I've decided I like the Veilside version 1 lip the best for my car and I'm leaning towards the carbon fiber one.

For anyone that has this, can you comment on the quality of the fit and finish?

Thanks.

Fit...well to install it properly you need special instructions from some guy named ray at veilside to prevent it from cracking on install...then the instructions tell you you have to dremel off some of the cf to get it to fit properly, then after two hours of trying to get it to bolt on (because the holes don't match up) you realize the sharp upper edge of the lip that touches your bumper is scraping the crap out of your paint and then if that's not enough you notice dull spots because the clear coat is missing on some parts of the lip.

other than that it's great.

I also agree with zeroday's comments on the installation process...it also scraps the **** out of your bumper....use 3M tape on the front part by the grill as well. It does change the appearance nicely.

Yup all the above statements are true... Now about a couple of months the lip will start sliding up and down scraping the bumper so 3m tape is pretty important.

Do these scraping issues apply to the urethane model as well?

I have the fiberglass one and had all the same problems as said above. The same with scraping. So it might be the same with the urethane.

Where the frick was all this info when I was asking? Would have been nice to know before I ordered. Since I'm still waiting for delivery at least I can get the 3M tape on it. What about some type of rubber molding along the top edge? Is there enough play to get it in there?

I would go with urethane if I were you. It seems like it would be able to bend a bit making the install easier, plus it is a softer material - probably wont scratch your paint as bad, it's cheaper too.

My carbon lip was a pain to put on. It cracked in the corners. It's held on with tape and zip ties. It does look cool though and I'm glad I have it.

Mine installed fine but I also have cracks in the corners of the lip. I think this was caused by not initiallly using double stick tape (3M) on the center piece. At highway speeds the air causes the lip to be pushed downward which puts pressure on the corners causing them to crack. I would also highly recommend 3m tape.

I just installed the V1 urethane lip on my black roadster - it was almost a no-brainer. Dry fitting and aligning the bolt holes prior to painting was an absolute must, and urethane really lends itself to that - it doesn't crack. CF is obviously very very less forgiving.

For what it's worth, when I took out the four under bumper bolts, I inserted two scrap bolts with the heads ground off in the outtermost holes on each side to assist the mounting procedure. These served as "pins" to help position the lip once the backing was taken off the tape (it's pretty unforgiving stuff once it makes contact). Once positioned, I put in the stock inner bolts, then unscrewed the pins and replaced them with the factory bolts. This sounds like a lot, but when you're doing it alone, those underside alignment mounting "pins" really help

No cracks so far, but the fit wasn't completely perfect either all the way around - there are very small gaps between the lip and the body where it wraps around the wheel well edges and there is no mounting tape. I'll probably fill it in with black silicone just to maintain the waterproof membrane around the entire lip perimeter (black on black helps here).

Mounting the V1 lip seems to be pretty binary - it's either a piece of cake or a total nightmare. Good luck - the result is worth it, though. Hang in there.

I got mine from Bulletproof (you can find them on this site), but be prepared to wait awhile for it. Mine took two months.
