Thumbs up Hood Shocks installed

A fellow Middle TN Z Club member and friend (350ZTN on this board) has been working on a set of hood shocks so you don’t have to use hood prop. I volunteered my car to be the second test fitting subject. They turned out great! Now there are some slight modifications needed to install these but, I wont comment on those in their entirety because I hope to change them this week. Notice the divider covers for brakes and battery are not there right now. I will be altering these abit to insure there will be no rubbing. I hope to do this without cutting. If I cant there will be some slight cutting for the hood shock to lower to its resting place.

Looks good Vandy!

Does the hood sit as high as with the prop rod?
Any idea of pricing?

How hard do you have to push to get the hood to close?

Looks good. I wonder if this will work on my carbon fiber hood too?

Hey I will be willing to be the Third fitter as an out of stater (Shipped DIY installer) if ya want. I think the shocks are a great idea. And since I'm not really going for alot of cosmetics internally I don't have aproblem if I have to cut the Battery/Brake covers. Would be great if you found a way around cutting them. Let me know I'll fit it and see how it goes as a DIY.

Maybe you can "patent" the product and get some resellers?!?!

Default Gas Struts

Absolutely awesome job!! I've been waiting. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade because you've done the work, but as an engineer I'm a little concerned the struts are not long enough and don't attach a little further forward toward the front of the car. I would be a little afraid a wind could catch the hood with short struts and cause bending. Has this been considered?

Id think a lighter carbon hood might be too light, could make closing rather difficult.

Default Struts on CF Hood

I disagree that a CF hood may be difficult for the struts. There should be more than enough stuctural integrety, especially along the edges where the struts would attach. But there's nothing like testing.

Buff:
The hood is the same height as the prop rod.
teh215:
After about 1/4 of the way down the shocks allow the hood to fall freely, just as if they weren't on at all.
jminor:
I considered the mounting f the shocks further back, but the problem there is clearance issues. The hood wouldn't close if you went any further towards the front of the car. As for the gusts of wind, I've had mine open in gusty winds and it seemed to be okay.
Mukrat:
$69 shipped...pm me
Ricky:
I'd be afraid of cracking on a carbon fiber hood.
djkern:
I'm hoping VandyZ can find a way to fit these without cutting.
