NismoKid...did you cut/sand the housing to allow the bulb to pass through? On the base model the opening for the h7 bulb is diffrent then the d2r.

You don't have to do anything for the ImportHookup kit; just a plug and play system. However, there is a "dust cover" that you have to take off to access the bulb and you can either drill a hole through it to run the wires or just completely leave it off (I did the latter).

DJK, thanks

If i get my hands on the HID's that are currently on the Z (except Base of course)... can i just take the ballast from them and use it on the Base Headlights? or are the projectors different?

Reason i ask is because im expecting a set of damaged headlights and my current Base headlights are cleared (meaning no orange strip) so i just wanna know if i can add the ballast to it?

Our housings (so I've read) don't have the necessary HID reflectors in the housings, but from all the aftermarket HID guys here it doesn't seem to make too much of a difference.

Wsup Brian,

OK... im getting a hold of a set of Xenon Model Headlights from Json & Chad. Json's headlight Right Headlight looks OK with some minor scratches and some plastics torn... the headlight might not be installable but the componenents are perfect... my question is, How can i add the ballasts and the rest of the components to the base headlight? I read at some older posts that the head lamp is different... can i somehow used the one on the salvaged ones and transfer them to the base ones? Will it work fine?

Any help is appreciated...
Thanks,
HEnry

PS: I got your Cargo Net from Courtney...

'sup Hen,

If you are trying to use the OEM HID set with the Base housing, I THINK you need to re-base the bulbs in order to fit the Base housing (not a big deal, I've read about people on here doing this with ease). If you wanted to try to get some of the guts of the damaged set into your Base housing, that sounds like a project that you should be able to do (since you successfully finished your little venture at Al's). Then again, I'm not too sure what the extent of damage is to the housing... could you just swap the front lens, you've taken it off before to clear out the reflector strip). Maybe we could take a look at the parts when we meet next

And thanks for getting the net. If your car remains damage-free by the time I see you, then I'll know that this net wasn't ever in Tony's possession LOL

edit: thought this link should be retrieved as it holds good information about HID bulbs... for those that are interested

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply. Your upgrade is great and the car loks awesome. I just want to improve a bit the light output with some whiter bulbs. I'm not planining to install HID's, at least forow.

So, in order to replace the lightbulbs, I guess, I will have to remove both front wheels, remove the inner fender cover to reach the stock buls?

Thanks again.

you must be getting moisture inside the headlights if you left the covers off. And if it rains heavy just hope you don't get any water in there....

Nope, no moisture. I asked Dave about this before I went with this choice since he did the same thing. He lives in New Orleans and gets a lot of rain like we do in Florida. I've been driving in the rain (more than I would like to since I like my car clean :P) and no moisture at all in the headlights.

The water from the hood goes into the joint between the side fenders and then onto the inside of the wheel well (you can't see it unless you remove the wheel well). The water gets pretty close to the housing, but it just drips out of the louvers on the front of the wheel wells. I thought it would fog up too, but it hasn't for the 3+ months I've had it.

well, that's good to hear. I would just be too afraid to get any water near a hot $100 HID bulb, and would use the extra $10 to buy the two headlight covers from the dealership...
But that's good to know.

I know what you mean though. When I finished hooking up the lights, I decided to go ahead and drill them anyways. But then I couldn't find my drill or drill bits so I just decided to leave them off. Next time my wheels are off the ground and I can find the bit, I'd probably put them on just as an added safety. I don't want to replace $100 bulb each like you said...

This was 5 f***ing years ago.

Edit - I should add that strangely enough, he is still active on the boards which isn't usually the case with these grave diggings.

This may be a 5 year old thread but the information is just as valid today as it was 5 years ago.

I agree, but the OP may not still be here 5 years later. The number of active members after 5 years is quite low, FYI. People move on with their lives, get different vehicles, and generally don't revisit threads they made 5 years ago to give people updates about an HID kit.

They should.

Such an even spread for a non-hid projector. Impressive...
