Sorry for making like Barbara Walters with all the quesions, but in order to do it right I want to know all the specifics.

peace
hmm when i took off the the plastic cover off for the a/c, temp/ compass display it was a bright white light.. so i had to put 3 layers of the blue film. in order to get the same blue i wanted throughout. the Z seems like it uses the same orange plastic cover in front to achieve the same color but don't quote me on that hehe

one of you should take apart everything to find out for sure.

So, essentially, blue led's in those specific gauges would be no good? accordfreak, is there anyway that I can call you? I'll keep the number to myself. Just pm me if this is ok.

gq- 45 MCD is pretty dim man. idk about that one. the one's i used for my sidemarkers are 12,000 mcd! also, man if you ever do replace the guage pod led's, DONT PRESS ON THE MILAGE LCD SCREEN!!!! i cannot stress this enough.

accordfreak - could you please post the actual ratings of the surface mount LED's you used? do you have any clue what the circuit boards run at as far as voltage, amperage, and so on?

wow nice pics twinturbo!

GQ 350z- definitely don't buy those surface mount LEDS for the gauges

I would get those type of LEDS here.. i'm planning to buy some also because a couple of my buttons use the other type of surface mount LEDS http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/smd-plcc/

http://www.lc-led.com/View/itemNumber/98

the rating on my center console surface mount leds is at 65 mcd.. and as you can see from my pictures it's pretty bright. hmm now i'm considering switching over to surface mount..hmm

those look right. the only thing i'm wondering about, accord, when you look at the pics of the LED's lit, how do only 3 LED's light up the entire tach EVENLY?! i dont get that. must be the viewing angle. any clue what the MCD rating on these would be? the stock ones?

i think the intensity ratings on the regular 3-5mm leds are different from surface mount's rating. All the surface mounts i've researched doesn't even come close to what the 3-5 mm leds are rated at.. i need to do more research on it.

as for the leds lighting up everything evenly is the viewing angle.. There are 5mm leds that are inverted that can have 360 degree viewing angle. the ones i have now.. only had a 60 degree viewing angle but i sanded the lens and used a drill to make it inverted but it's still kinda off so i'm ordering the inverted ones.

but for you guys 350z's it doesn't matter because i believe most surface mounts leds have 120 degrees viewing angle..

so, with a 120 degree angle, does that mean that within the 120 degrees, all light is virtually perfectly even?

ok i got it.. the MCD ratings is based on the viewing angle.. say a 15 degree viewing angle LED has 2000 mcd.. A 160 degree view angle with 130 mcd would give out the same light but it's not as concentrated as the 15 degree viewing angle lens. so the greater concentration of light the more mcd it has..

ok first you have to get a soldering iron and solder of course and SOLDERING WICK.. what the wick basically does is soak up solder.. You place the wick on your circuit board and put your soldering iron on top of the wick and it'll soak right up. put on your new led and put on your new solder..

if you never soldered before, please practice on your 486 50mhz computer that's collecting dust or something hehe

haha, accord, trust me man, i've had PLENTY of soldiering practice. such as this:

i know about the wick and everything i'm just worried about holding the iron on the board too long and harming it.
i'm just really hesitant to soldier on an $800 board.

so who wants my money?

i mean who wants to do this for me and ill pay them. for two reasons actually, one im rich i have money and two i dont solder. me and solder is like oil and water, we/they don't mix. anyhow, ive seen some VERY capable people so far and wouldnt mind having one of you do this job for me.

pricing- just name it...

p.s. i need a turn around time of less than a week. therefore i will next day it to you, you do it, next day it to me, all within a weeks time. this isn't my daily driver so if something were to go wrong i do have other vehicles to drive, but im just impatient when it comes to cool things like this.

i actually had this done on my RSX-s. for $210 i had my gauge cluster, window switches, and climate controls converted to blue. looked great. i miss that car and i think this would be a great way to kinda reminiss the good ole' days... hehe
