Default Halogen and xenon head lamp enclosures

I recently had a bit of a run in with a moving van and am in need of a new head lamp. Because my friend was driving the moving van I want to keep the repair costs down for him....

My question: are the head lamp housings (just the plastic casing of the head light, none of the electronics) the same on both the halogen and xenon lights. - I just need the casing, so it would be better for me to order the halogen and just not use the rest of the parts.

I am guessing by the prices that when you order the "LT Headlamp Assy" from the parts catalog you are also getting all the electronics (like the ballast, lamps, etc) with the part....

Halogen Headlamp: $247.87
Xenon Headlamp: $775.92

Any input would be great...

Its the performance model, so I already have xenon headlamps, do the xenon lamps work in the halogen light casing...

oh my bad...yes they will work. I have a base model that came without hids and installed the stock oem hids in it halogen housing. The only think you will need for this will be H7 adapters. You can get them for around $20

I'm pretty sure that price for the HID housing includes new ballast and bulbs, which is what makes it expensive. A halogen light bulb is very inexpensive so the price of the housing is basically the price of the housing + bulb.

The reflector is also different in the two so I'd suggest looking for a used headlight housing from an HID equipped Z. The HID Z uses a different lightbulb size than the Halogen housing so your bulb wouldn't fit without modification.

The HID bulb fits perfectly in the halogen housing, thats why the H7 adapter is needed. It slides over the HID bulb, creating a h7 ring like the halogen bulb for a perfect fit.

Humm, I may go ahead and get the Xenon housing. If i need an adapter and the reflector is different, then you could most likly tell a differance when looking at the two with the lights on.

I can always sell the ballast and bulb and just use the housing.

You won't get much if you sell one bulb and one ballast. People can buy aftermarket HIDs (a pair instead of one) for under $400. You wouldn't come close to breaking even if you sell just one bulb and one ballast.

There's a place in New Orleans that sells 350z parts. Their site is www.talrock.com They have HID housings, but I know they get a lot of their parts from Ebay. I'd suggest looking on Ebay first.

I dont know if your passenger or driver light was hit, but here's a passenger headlight with the bulb and ballast. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=36476

It doesn't really look like much damage to me, but there's probably some under the sheet metal. Have you ruled out trying to fix the housing you already have?

I'm not necessarily worried about fixing the cracked bracket, I just don't want the scrapes at the top of the housing visible... the car was perfect before and I don't want scrapes there after it is fixed.

Well, I don't know what to say. You could PM richard350z (he's under that username on **********). He crashed his track 350Z and is selling some aftermarket parts from the car. Maybe you could just switch headlight housings since it's only the lens that scratched.

you might/should be able to buff those scratches out. maybe even get some clear headlight protector things and maybe itll hide it...

one possibility. Id give it a shot before forking over 700 for a new housing anyway.
