Default Thread Titles Should Be Informative

I'm a member on some other forums which strongly enforce a rule that does not allow "teaser threads". This means that the thread titles must contain information which relates to the subject matter of the thread. The poster is required to add some information to the title or the thread will be deleted.

Titles like "Anyone notice", "Need Suggestions", "Input Appreciated", etc. are worthless, especially if the thread text box doesn't pop up when scrolling over the thread titles.

Also, informative words in the thread titles help when using the search funtion.

I would have to agree with you since it sounds very logical but this is not enforced here.

+1.. This would definitely prove handy during a search, as the keywords being searched would be embedded in the title. Not a bad suggestion for a n00b

Understand. This can be labeled as one of my "pet-peeves".

Maybe Mods can encourage folks to add some information to thread titles when its missing. (Can a thread title be edited?)

LOL. My least favourite titles are:

Need help right away!
Emergency! Must have answer in 15 minutes!
Somebody help me please!

I just ignore them.

It doesn't bother me too much.. you just have to roll the cursor over the title and you can usually figure out what its about by the first sentence that pops up..

As for the search.. I always hit the "search title and body" box..

Good thinking. That would drastically improve searching.

You're right about the pop-ups. The pop-ups are a lifesaver in these cases, but there are times when I can't get them to pop up. One forum I visit never has these pop-ups; that's probably why they are so persistent at that site in requiring informative titles.
