Default Classifieds-Delete many threads and post

I was wondering why don't they delete all the threads and post in the classifieds that are let's say more than three months old? Or if the sell has been confirmed sold. But that would be alot of work to go threw all threads. Maybe request seller to delete thread after sold. Wouldn't this open room for all the boards? I don't know how this works, but there's alot of space that can be saved there.

Do you mean delete depending on original post date or by last post date. Reason I ask is because I have a thread on the Car For Sale marketplace that was started on 11/13/2006 but I keep it updated as I lower the price and answer questions.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=230131

I suggest not using original post dates since I think other people do this as they update their sale/sale price. Just a suggestion.

The Marketplace does get purged regularly.

Personally, I like for them to stay around a while, that makes it easy for you to get an idea what something was selling for in the past.

+1 Keep them but maybe we should have something that would flag a thread as sold. For now I just mouse over the thread title to see the status if the OP was kind enough to update it as such.

Actually, the OP is supposed to go back and close/lock the thread.

But they VERY RARELY do. Every time I go looking for something I have to wade through several pages of bumps and o/t discussion only to find the item sold on page 4 of a 7 page thread. The OP never closed the thread. I have complained about this in the past and I may as well not even bothered. I have even had sellers tell me that they bumped their threads so many times they just started another one. The classified section is the wild west of this forum. Few rules and the ones they are there are not enforced. I cannot recall the last time I saw that forums mod post anything to try to fix the problem.

Bothers me too. I think a flagged icon or something to show it was sold could help, but if we cant get people to lock their own threads who will flag them? I wouldnt want them deleted b/c, like above, I like to see what items go for. Locking/closing the threads should be sufficient.

People have no incentive to close their threads unless there are consequences. I say if they sell their item and do not close the thread within 72 hours, they should be banned from posting in the marketplace for at least 90 days. Also, the advanced search should be modified to include the Marketplace and have the user option to filter out closed threads. These features along with an additional mod or two in that forum and it could get back in shape.

Yes, and my son is supposed to take the garbage out every day. Can you take a guess how well that works out?

I really like having all the threads stay around for the reason mentioned above (seeing what things were selling for). All I usually do is PM the seller and ask if the item is still available if it does not state that it has been sold in the past. That way it doesnt bump up an older thread.
