I do agree also that the term "off topic" is used WAY too liberally around here. As a thread and discussion progresses and evolves, it will change to different subjects. However, it should always be loosely related to the original post (as in still talking about cars, FI, shops, etc).

What should be cracked down on are statements made that are meant to instigate, troll, and otherwise inflame the discussion.

You mean like me popping into a thread and commenting on your inflammatory additions to a post you have absolutely NOTHING to do with? Of course you'll be defensive when called out on your despicable posting habits.

(Your post that I just quoted is a GREAT example of this. Who's really intent on starting arguments here? hmm...)

Closing threads and deleting posts isn't the answer, the answer is going after those who continually take threads off into tangents thread after thread.

I agree totally.

However, sometimes I feel as if my even posting in a thread incites people to attack. Remember that time I posted 'I like log' and got flamed for it? I only posted that to see if I'd get flamed, and I did.

At what point does a moderator have the authority to delete threads and "wait for an answer" and stifle the open discussion which is the nature of a "forum".

While I understand this particular thread was very emotional, that alone should not allow a moderator the leeway to lock a thread until a question is answered.

Add to that the questions that are in need of answer until further posts will be allowed were asked by a sponsor of this forum. That alone smells of sponsor favoritism.
No back to you the OP.

I unapproved all post that were OT. If you are not the owner of the car. Sharif NOAH BC or RA then your post is OT and just adding to the drama. You yourself have nothing to do with the thread except you want to see the FI drama continue hence the reason you made this thread. Furthermore the reason you havent posted again is because you see that SHARIF infact locked the thread not me. I think before you make a thread you should look and see what exactly happened. So you dont make inaccurate statements like you have here.

just a question though:

if I was asking sharif to explain something, is that O/T still?

(i.e explaining why he still made a thread with accusatory statements when he already knew the answers (and Noah verified))

r0mey- You are proving my initial thoughts as to your moderating style....

The "reason I haven't posted again" is NOT because I saw Sharif locked the thread, but because I'm working and have just logged back on. The fact you would make the assumptions you are is laughable.

I did not make this post to continue drama. I posted this as a general forum question regarding moderator leeway. I felt you over stepped your bounds by not allowing any posts until questions were answered, which I think is absurd.

Limiting discussion in a thread to a small group of people is ridiculous. Locking a thread that is getting out of control and suggesting the parties involved handle by PM is the typical way I've seen it handled.

I also posted this here so that others could either disagree or agree with my opinion and if the admins happen to wander by, they would be made aware of and could either support or correct the behavior. I don't mind being in the minority if that happens to be the case.

Also, could you please point out my inaccurate statements (note - statements are different than opinions)? Semantics aside (I suppose my saying "locking a thread" instead of spelling out that you wouldn't allow any more posts until Sharif's questions were answered could be construed as "inaccurate") but in the end is the same thing.

I hope this clears up whatever it is you think was my ulterior motive.
