I've got a new NISMO thermostat sitting by my computer here waiting for install......I have three track events in Jan.....would you consider that "frequent" track days? I also have stock raidator, recently replaced when original exploded on me. I should have jsut upgraded then, but I didn't think I would track my car then......now that's all I want to do with it!

are you doing 3 a month for the rest of the year or just 3 total? If it were 3 total, I honestly would not even bother unless temps get HOT that time of year by you

bump good info. This thread made me decide NOT to buy an aftermarket T-stat (nismo or otherwise).

nothing wrong with a bump...

anyway,

i've had both on my car for more than 5yrs now. i would consider my driving style, at times, track worthy, shhhhhhhh. i think the 54mm Koyo and Nismo t-stat have stopped my engine from melting at times, lol! i think this setup is fine and it's already been proven through 4 Chicago winters, my heat still worked fine.

i believe there is an alternative to the Nismo t-stat now...

Mishimoto t-stat, which opens at 60'c vs OEM 76.5'c

I suppose I'm safe ATM. Virginia seems to be colder most of the year than hot. I just ordered my Mishi rad and pathfinder cooling mod so I'm set for now until I need more parts. :-)

Hey, I wrote my previous post without actually thinking thoroughly. I wouldn't touch Mishi's T-STAT. They make afforable products, no doubt, but for something as important as the T-STAT I would stay away IMO.

My only concern with Nismo's T-STAT is this - It only allows initial flow of cooler coolant

Let me know if I'm wrong here:

Lets say you have temps of 160degree.
The NISMO T-STAT would open.
Coolant would flow through the block
(in my case, through the pathfinder mod and Turbo housing)
By the time coolant returns to the T-STAT housing, I doubt your coolant temperature will still be at 160 degree.
Probably more like 200+ degree at return.
The NISMO T-STAT would open again and, as coolant flows, perhaps stay open?
Repeat cycle.

So my questions is: Why purchase a NISMO T-STAT?
Yes, it opens at a lower temperature once and then generally stays open.

The OEM T-STAT would function the same way and be many more times less $$$.
