Exclamation APS TT CARB exemption status [question for Peter]

I know this has been asked a million times but I cannot find a definitive answer in any of the other threads so here we go:

Peter [APS],

What is the status of the APS TT CARB exemption? Is this something that is still in the works?

I am really torn between the APS TT and the JWT kit but I am really leaning towards the APS TT kit. I know how much to expect to pay for the kit with installation and by reviews of the current crop of owners, the APS TT kit meets their reliability and power expectations. Hopefully I can get an answer either way because the CARB issue is critical to my decision on whether or not I can purchase the kit.

Thanks in advance...

Here is a response that I got from Peter at the end of Feb (hope he doesn't mind my passing it on).
Hi Alan, APS has run a number of engine emission tests in Australia (to the CARB standard), this way APS engineers will have a very good idea if we can meet the CARB engine emission numbers before running the actual CARB emission test.

If all goes to plan I think we wil be able to start the CARB test test procedure by Mid year.

I can see whay the other manufactures have not been able to meet the CARB emission numbers to date, it looks like the Z engine will need to retain most of the stock fuel system to pass and gain a CARB EO.

This is the area which APS are working in currently and we have a clever plan which APS engineers believe will enable the APS TT system to meet the CARB emission numbers and still support high Horsepower, time will tell for sure.

Thanks

Peter

Now that APS has the G35 Twin Turbo System nearly completed the engineering focus will be on the CARB EO emision testing over the coming months.

With some luck I expect APS will be able to start this CARB process by mid year and we have a number of interesting ideas which APS engineers belive will enable the APS TT system to meet the allowable CARB emisison numbers.

I can't say more at this time though APS engineers are confident without being over confident that the APS Twin Turbo System should be able to gain a CARB EO.

Thanks

Peter

This is great news. If it is carb approved the price difference between this and the other kit (read: Greddy) will have no bearing on me.

I'll sign and date the check baby! ahha

Thanks Peter... When CARB Exemption is approved.. I'll have your kit, and buy a Latest Available G35Coupe to go under it..

Thanks for sticking with us - with such demands.....

Cheers Amy -

Have you considered this exemption Valid... considered the G35Coupe for 2006/2007 ? A leading question for sure..

Cheers

Nice! This is the only thing that is holding me back. If APS gets CARB approved, consider another kit sold....to me!!!

Peter do you think the Atmospheric venting of the BOV in the APS kit will have issue with the CARB board? If so I guess adjusting it to 100% bypass mode for testing (if possible) could help faclitate .

I don't believe that the blow off valve should be an issue for the CARB EO as most if not all of the engine emission test is conducted in a partial throttle engine operation condition, (not at positive pressure) under these conditions the BOV is fully closed and does not vent any air to atmosphere, I hope to know for sure later on this year.

Thanks

Peter

If my finances are still running smoothly and as long as I wouldn't have to check under the hood everytime I get in my commuter turbo Z, this kit will definitely keep me up at night deciding whether to stay stock or just go ahead and turbo the thing.

Life is short

oh, happy St. Patrick's Day

don't drink and operate the Z

Well a few , includeing myself aren't gonna wait for CARB cert, we're kinda taking it on faith. My built LB as nearly done and awaiting APS install into my G @ Rob's in ~May. I have a Stillen open mouth bumper already, debating whether or not to also upgrade cooling with a Koyo or not. Track temps get pretty crispy in the Central valley.

Well all I can promise you is that APS will do all in it's power to gain a CARB EO for the APS TT system, even if this means additional engineering to gain an engine emission pass, we'll give it all we've got, that's for sure.

That's a +3. And Rob will have many more, I'm sure. I will have my name on the list the day it's approved. "The Sooner the Better!!!" Best to make it a Big, Big, Big posting on the forum the day it's approved. :-)

Will do when APS hopefully achieves a CARB EO, let's not all under estimate the technical difficultly of obtaining a CARB EO for a FI engine.

Thanks

Ive been a loyal fan of APS and that's why I went with them. People like Peter and the support available. No one can compare. Then being blessed by having a tuner that knows so much and is available as well. Man, Rob and APS have a lot coming their ways. Thx again for an awesome product (Peter) and thx (Rob) for an awesome build. Those comtemplating the install WONT be unsatisfied.

Hey awesome to hear, I'm extremely pleased to hear that you're a very satisfied/happy APS customer and of course much of the credit also goes to the installer of the product, a big thanks to Rob.

Thanks

Peter
