Who would be interested in a group buy for the APS single turbo kit once it is released?
http://www.************************/35.../it_system.htm
I'm sure if we had 10 or 20 people we could broker a better price from an APS dealer. My local dealer is SGP, but we could shop them all to see who comes up with the best pricing.
I am willing to participate in a group buy up to $5000 or thereabouts, if it's any more than that I might as well go TT.
Anyway, please list your interest and we can keep this thread updated with people interested in a GB for this item. I've made up my mind I'm buying this kit as long as it comes out on time, performs as advertised, and comes in at a decent price. I might as well try to get the best price possible!
Please list if you ARE FOR SURE going to buy this kit, which car Z/G, and the price you are willing to pay (MSRP should be ~$5500), or if you are just moderately interested.
APS stated in a thread that GB's are up to the dealers.
APS Peter
"That would be up to the US dealers to decide though to be frank I'd rather not see a group buy as I prefer to see our dealers make a fair profit margin and offer excellent product support and after sales service now and in the future.
A professional tuning business needs to retain a reasonable profit margin to run and operate a high quality tuning business with helpful technical support staff, that said I would also like to see forum members looked after with special service and pricing, I'm sure it's posssible to put some type of deal together in the future."
He said that he'd rather not see a group buy, BUT he would like to see special service/pricing for forum members. I'll take that as it's up to the particular dealer to decide whether or not they are still making a decent margin.
Most of us will not be requiring any service from this (install/tuning/problems), so it's basically just a dealer fee.

I will add though, the APS kits come to your door pre programmed to run fairly well on your particular octane fuel, so a single trip to a dealer may be necessary just to do a little FINE tuning.
Also, Unichip software is more widespread than we are lead to believe. I bet most any major city has someone with a dyno and Unichip.

My only concern initially was the turbo placement, however, if you check out the Turbonetics thread, the additional pics there pretty much quell any concerns. The turbo is NOT as low as it appears in these photos!
I'm sold on this kit, my only remaining concern is price and availability, and a group buy would probably take care of that.
Well, I would say i'm moderately interested. I need to improve my driving skills before I throw in a turbo. However, I will eventually put one in. Preferably I would like to race my car all summer, then mod it during the winter
.
But if the price is right, I would buy it ahead of time, definitely. It's not like the turbo is gonna spoil if I leave if for 6 months :P

Sorry pal you are wrong on this one. I checked on APS website and called unichip directly....no authorized tuners in FL period. You can't get any more major that Miami. We have to be in the top 10 largest cities in the US.

This is legwork individual buyers will have to do on their own finding the closest accessible tuner. However, it isn't even entirely necessary considering it comes out of the box tuned for your fuel grade.
Worst case scenario; you have a car running at safe, conservative settings maybe at the cost of a little hp. Next worst, you have to seek the help of an unauthorized tuner in your area or send off for adjustments. And lastly, if you must fine tune, drive to an authorized dealer far away.
The APS kits don't seem to be for people who wants to tweak/tune on their own (No blown motors anyone???), other than that, there's no reason not to buy the best kit out there!
Really the out of the box tuned kits from APS, Turbonetics, Vortech, etc. all seem to provide the safest, complete, cost effective, most reliable FI experience. Greedy is great if you're building your motor before or after it grenades, and don't mind buying a bunch of extra parts. As for me, I'm keeping my bottom end stock, so the safer the better!
Hopefully, the actual MSRP and other info will be out soon so we can start building a list for the GB!

actually for us FL people I think the unichip does not even come tuned for 93 octane, only 91 or 94. Though it would be possible to run tuned for 91 octane, Peter said it is possible to just send the chip to be tuned at an authorized aps dealer (he specifically mentioned sending it to tuan - dont remember his shops name though - he is member zero2sixty - and im sure any aps dealer could do it but i think tuan's shop is somewhere in the southeast so less shipping costs). i believe that it is also necessary to get the chip retuned for 2003 models since the unichip is tuned to the newer ecu.

Why are private group buys not allowed? They're commonplace on automotive forums...

Vendors can get on your site and post threads for a group buy for free, so why should the other vendors pay if you can just come in and get the money and leave? While we realize that as a non-sponsored/non-vendor you want to get a good deal, we don't know who is who.

Well, in this case I am not posting that we will be using a particular vendor, only that we will group together for buying power and use whatever vendor will give us the best price. I don't understand how this effects advertisers.
WE are shopping the vendors, not vice versa.

Ok.
Wasn't sure if you were doing it through a shop that isn't a sponsor or not.
You need to contact a vendor then and see if you can set something up, then they can start a thread in Vendor Group Buy's.

EXACTLY!
ok, quick question - Is the single turbo kit going to need any accessories to complete the installation on a G35 coupe? I know the TT kit for the Z needs an addt'l set of parts to install on a G, but what about the ST?
I'm another one that isn't looking to upgrade right away (I was thinking Fall - Octoberish) but if this price is too good to pass up, well then I'm not going to let it slip away...
