Default how much does it cost to build up z motor?

i come from the world of supras where the stock block is good for 900rwhp so i never really had to worry about buidling up the motor, but on Zs, i see thats not the same thing, how much does it cost to build up a Z motor so it can take like 15-20lbs of boost?

This thread has some budgetary numbers I believe. About $4000 in parts plus labour and machining costs for a basic build with no headwork.

Also check out Going Deep's built motor thread...it walks you through the needed elements, and it's a good starting point for you. It's pinned in this forum.

So is this the best build up for a little bit of everything? I mean you don't REALLY need a five angle valve job, and you can always add cams and stuff later right?

Basic Long Block: $4500 + $2000 core

Block oil passages cleaned
Block redecked
Block Bored and Honed using a Torque Plate
Crank balanced
Crank journals polished
Shot peened stock rods

New Nissan Oil Pump
New Nissan Cam seals

It depends on how built you want it.

Talking near everything?

Probably around 10k in parts.

True, but you will pay for labor twice. If you plan on added these things if you have the money you might as well do it at the same time and save on the labor. If not it will cost you more in the long run.

I would not choose this one. It retains the stock rods that are just shot peened. I would accept nothing except a nice set of forged rods such as Pauter rods. Remember, the rods are what go in or turbo'd motors.

Ah, I didn't catch that. I guess the next one up that has upgraded rods is the best one then. ($6000+$2000core)

I think that the best price is the:
Ultimate short block: $3900 + $1000 core

Block oil passages cleaned
Block redecked
Block Bored and Honed using a Torque Plate
Crank balanced
Crank journals polished
New Main and Rod bearings w/ceramic coating
Pauter Rods
ARP Rod Bolts
CP Pistons .020 over(8.5:1 or 11.5:1)
*Ceramic coating on Pistons
*ARP Main Studs

Just add some ARP Head Studs and this seems like a strong block that will give you more power then you would need.

How much power would the ultimate short block be good for?

That's the one I was thinking of as well, should be good for at least 500 RWHP using the APS single kit. Agree?

Does the + $1000 core cost mean that if you don't send in your shortblock you pay that much extra?

I was thinking the same, should be good for 500rwhp if not more. The + $1000 core means that they charge you that much more. Then when you send them your shortblock they refund you $1000.

Sounds like a fairly decent price especially if you can remove/replace the shortblock on your own. Would save big labor costs.

They will charge you the extra $1K when you buy the block and when you return yours they will refund the $1K.

I have read the Arias pistons can handle up to 25 psi unless you get the zero silicon version....does anybody know this info on those CP Pistons?
