If it can be afforded keeping a running core would be a good idea, that way if anything happens down the road you wont be down for a long time.

Regarding AEBS and their sleeved blocks, I think some of the reputation, at least in the 350Z world, might be undeserved. Gurgen has informed me that his AEBS sleeved block is fine, and did not sink. He is still trying to diagnose what caused his very minor coolant leak. The leak was so small it was undetectable by most traditional means. And Phunk (Charles) has an AEBS sleeved block, and has been tuning it upwards of 500whp without sinkage.
I will say that their stroker kit is a completely different story. A good friend of mine installed the stroker kit, and the crank hit the oil pan!! I have heard of similar difficulities when installing the AEBS Stroker kit.
And don't forget, that if you want sleeves, SGP can also install those as well. Personally, I would be going with Darton, since their design is supposed to be sink proof, and the mid sleeve allows for a more OEM'ish flow of coolant through the heads and block.

I am in the process of pulling my motor and shipping the long block to SGP racing. I am going with the Ultimate short block and they are going to assemble it for me. All my shop has to do is pull and reinstall. The Ultimate short block is $3900 and the assemble is another $400. My shop is going to pull and reinstall for $900. I am looking at a total of $5300 not including the shipping back and forth to SGP which is about $500.

Most places will charge at least $100 to prep a motor for shipment... Regardless, that sounds like a good deal.
