Sweet! I hope you're going to Zdayz. I'd love to hear and feel the HKS if you have it by then.

no new pulley? i don't understand why they had to remove front bumper in order to install injectors, spacer and navigator.

Reaper700,

Good thread, thanks. Couple of questions.

Reaper, you mentioned your price was 5850usd. Since you are from winnipeg, what was the final price including shipping, duty, tax, border brokerage, etc. trying to decide to buy locally or import from usa. I was quoted $10K canadian locally. btw, who did your install?

for others,

i am considering redoing my differential with quaife. since my pumpkin will be open, does the power generated by this kit justify the 3.3 gears from a AT 350z or are the stock 3.5 gears acceptable. in other words, anybody who owns this kit having traction issues?

thanks, the input in this thread has been very helpful

pp

Don't blame the lack of traction on the gearing. With a Cent. SC I would want the gears/revs to go by quickly. As you build boost with RPM.

You will be adding a Quaife. Just add descent rubber and keep the 3.5.

Personally I will be running a 3.9 with this HKS SC.

Thanks Illz,

I have 275 Michelin PS2 in the rear. Glad to hear you think there will be no traction issues. My questions stem from two sources. #1 - many of the high HP turbo guys are complaining of traction issues despite good wide rubber. #2 - my installer suggested that 3.3 might be a good idea, so I was soliciting opinions from the forum since I trust you guys!

Anyone else running the two ends of the spectrum, 3.3 or 3.9 with the hks sc?

After reading all these post of the HKS I'm thinking the kit is pretty weak, here are the reasons for my opinion:

1) I don't like any kit that relies on additional fue by having an injector/injectors spray in air intake of the plenum. This does not properly address the special fuel requirements for the first two cylinder that do not get enough fuel.

2) Who wants to be told you can't run a modified exaust without headers? And you can't even have high flow cats? I respect the ***** turn key thing but I certainly don't like restrictions. Especially when it comes to exaust restrictions.

3) What's up with the tiny intercooler? I know the boost levels are pretty mild but a intercooler that small does not really leave much room for future modification. I know the intercooler runs cool but that tiny intercooler just looks wrong.

4)If you are spending the money on forced induction $5,000-7,000 why not get something that will take you well beyond the 400+rwhp range? \

There is no doubt that HKS is a quality company, but I don't like the "stillen" route they took with this setup. As some of you guys know I have a Procharger with a 50 shot of NOS and we are hitting over 525rwhp, about 420rwhp without NOS.

If I want out and spent 5g's on an HKS and only got 300-325rwhp I'd be seriously pissed because stock Z with greddy kits are running about a 100rwhp more and are doing so safley.

But on the otherhand atleast this kit appears to be in "safe" tolerances for boost, A/F and state of tune so good luck to all who have one

+1 Almost got this kit because of the safety margin. Didn't because of the above, some rumors going around at the time, and got a good price on TT kit (cheaper than HKS SC).

Ohh and one last thing. Anyone here who has dished out over 5g's to get F/I may be happy now with say 330rwhp won't be for too long. Especially after they get blown away by a high boost supercharger or turbocharged Z. I promise you that 330rwhp will not be satisfying for long. The real test for HKS will be to see what the HP limits are with their new SC kit. I suspect it won't be able to perform to the level of Vortec or Procharger

The compressor turbine of the HKS kit just looks way too small to provide the CFM's necessary to get big HP numbers.

Doing all the mods like cams, intake, headers, no cats, exaust and reflash will get you very near 300rwhp without any kind of FI at all. SGP told me once that they did a stillen kit and then the guy raced a naturally aspirated Z with all the bolt on with reflash and the cars were running neck to neck. I would be pissed if I was that guy with the Stillen kit not being able to beat a NA Z

now what would be cool, is all of those n/a mods, plus the stillen kit, which would require a tuneable ecu system, saayyyy - utec. what would happen with that?

hmmmmm... maybe i should hold off on my vortech.

on second thought... let's compare:

#1 how much does the stillen kit cost (including installation)?

#2 how much do all of the n/a mods costs (including installation)?

i'd venture to say, they are about even, if not more for the n/a mods. installation on most of those are not cheap...
