Todd and Ryan are both great great peeps. So glad you got everything resolved. Sometimes people meet under bad circumstances. Saw the race on video. Pretty sick. The guy in the camero is named TERMN8R. He hasn't lost many races but always has a video cam with him so most of them are documented. Saw a vid of him racing a TT Cobra from 60 to 160. That car is insane.

well, nitrous is pretty much king of drag racing, but he'd just run out if he'd dare use it on a road coarse, and the camaro probably doesn't handle as well as the Z...

Interesting, I can see brake boosting from a standstill, just mash the brake and accelerator at the same time and get off the brake and jump on the gas. On the roll, it does seem difficult to balance mashing both pedals while keeping the same speed and not jerking the car around and making it obvious. I'm also guessing that while you can't brake boost a manual from a standstill, you can do it from a roll, correct?? Just trying to get the techique clear in my mind, lol.

That is correct. Its quite simple once you get the hang of it, but it does take some practice to get it done correctly.

You could do brake boosting from a standstill in a manual, but it would just hurt you... you would end up spinning your tires forever. To brake boost from a standstill all you do is hold the clutch with your left foot and hold the brake with your right heel while holding the gas with your right toes. Let the boost build up and then just lift your heel of the brake and let go of the clutch.

From a roll you just put it in the gear you want and get up to the speed you will be racing from. Then hold the brake and the gas at the same time and keep it at that certain speed, this will put a load on your engine and it will get your turbo out of the vacuum, and let it spool up to 0 pressure (you can let it spool up to a little more, but I wouldn't suggest it). Then when you start the race just let go of brake and smash the gas. Since your turbo is out of the vacuum already and its already spooled up there won't be any lag, and you will just shoot out! It really does make a difference when racing.

Yep, the Turbo Buick guys do brake boost all the time and when they let off the brake and whack the throttle open, they look like they were rear ended by a dump truck. It's VERY effective getting the engines torque up.

The only bad part of brake boosting is that if you do it for a little longer then you will start smelling your brakes when they start to burn a little.

I'm not sure how much brake boosting your built motor can handle, but on a stock motor I wouldn't suggest to go over 0psi. Anything over that puts too much of a load on the motor imo, and it will kill the brakes!

btw, I don't suggest brake boosting from a stand still... if you brake boost from a standstill you will just spin your tires for about 5 minutes.
Geez, that's an awsome way to smoke your pads and warp your rotors. Nice.

You hear that everyone..I expect to see some out of towners drive out here...Sharif from NC, CJ from Chicago, Ernie from CT, Gurgen from CA, Tim from TX...I'm calling you guys out!!!
Todd, thanks for calling me out, but I don't think too many of the NM people can hang with the daily driver.. the ES300 The Z will not be home for another 3 to 4 weeks.

I already said that in the post where you quoted me, so I really don't see your point... As long as you don't do it too long you'll be alright. Your brakes wear anyways, and thats why most of us FI guys buy some more durable brakes (need more stopping power). The choice of brake boosting is up to the driver. If he wants to do it and doesn't mind sacrificing a little brake wear than thats up to him. Also there's no need to brake boost every single race your in, some people aren't even worth to go full boost against... I only brake boost when I race someone who's about equal to me. IMO brake boosting is very effective and worth the extra brake wear, and its not like you will have to change your brakes after every single time you brake boost... they will still last pretty long. It all depends on your driving habits.

Todd: Sorry for taking this thread a little off topic... I think you should try some brake boosting and then try and run that guy again. I'm pretty sure you would be able to take him by a bit, since you said that he got the jump on you in the split second that it took the turbo to spool up. This time there would be no lag, so you should be equal right from the beginning.

check out the street racing forums, someone posted a video of the race. The LS1 had a passenger with a camera.

The video is kind of shaky. I don't think we got the first part of the race, and Todd did lift towards the end so it looks like he got pulled harder then he did.
