Default Building motor..are cams worth it?

I'm building up my motor this summer, and I'm pulling the engine myself to ship the short block to SGP for machining and bottom end assembly. My goal is 550-575, safely. (yes i know, nothing is 'safe' with FI)

My question is, for this power goal, would it benefit me to install new cams while my motor is out, or is it just overkill? Especially if there's a decent GB going on anytime soon....

Do it for sure. If you want to get to that hp level then cams are required....as several members have found. The wall without cams seem to be hit around the 520 rwhp level. Cams are out for the cylinder head install anyhow so the labour should be minimal....especially for a drop in cam like Nismo or JWT.

I agree^^^

550whp is the rough choking point. You can get more, if you aggresively tune, but cams will definately help you achieve your goal.

I like the JWT S1....very good turbo cam. And there is a GB going on them without another vendor. That would be the time to buy and install them!

The cams sound mean and adjust your power curve which makes the car pull like crazy, like the others said it makes it a whole lot easier to get to your goal. Get em yeah yeah yeah.
