Default Has anybody here had GRD build their motor?

I'm thinking of letting GRD build my motor instead of SGP, since my car is already at GRD right now. I spoke with them on the phone earlier today and Irshad told me they have built two APS TT Z's without problem. They use a couple diff local machine shops: Apex and Precision. I'm guess I'm not so worried about letting GRD do the engine assembley as I am not knowing anything about these machine shops. I guess if GRD trusts them, I should too, right, but I just thought I'd get some feedback from you guys.

Thanks,
Chris

Just about every shop will outsource the machining work to another shop. GRD has done a lot of import build-ups, so I'd have no hesitation letting them do the build-up.

SGP has more experience building these motors than anyone in the country. So really, the decision is up to you.

That's my delema Sharif. I know SGP has done TONS of VQ motor buildups, as opposed to only a handful done by GRD. I do believe that Earl is a DAMN good mechanic, and he wouldn't knowingly let anything slip by on my car, but there's no replacement for experience. What would you do if you were in my position?

Can SGP do tuning too? I guess GRD would be convenient since they can tune for the built engine too.

Yes...SGP does quite a bit of tuning in their shop.

A few weeks back they were having issues with their version of the Unichip tuning software. They were waiting for new software from APS. Maybe drop Kyle an e-mail or PM and he can let you know when they will be up and running.

I emailed Kyle for a quote on their Upgraded Long Block #3, but with the cams and pistons I provide. I really feel more confident letting them do the engine work, breaking it in on my own, then upgrading the fuel system and taking it up to GRD for the weekend for final tuning. PITA, but I feel I'll get the best of both worlds that way.
