Default Possible to go into limp mode with being too rich ?

my car is running extremely rich right now, my wideband just stopped working but for the past few months i have been running around 9.9 -10.5 a/f ratio gauge from 2k to 6600 rpm's durring a WOT run. car goes into limp mode every so often. hasn't done it in a while, while my wideband isn't working right now, i hooked up a narrowband gauge just to see if it still goes full rich, and it does, car went into limp mode in 2nd gear around 4k rpm. a thought just popped in my head, would being too rich cause an engine to possibly not burn all the gas in the cylinder and cause the car to go into limp mode ? the car just started doing this when it was riched up from being too lean when exhausts were changed out in feb. any thoughts ?
thanks

Sounds like the split second box to me, if there is something wrong with the wiring, or the box has something wrong with it, it will go into limp mode and run extremely rich I would check over the wiring, if everything looks good I would maybe check out that black box. If you have any question feel free to email me or PM me.

well, its programmed rich right now on purpose, just wondering if the car being too rich would cause limp mode.

Too rich, in itself, will not cause limp. It will cause your ECU to throw all kinds of CEL's, but not a pure limp mod per se.

I am with CP on this one....check your split second box and wiring.

all looks good. possibly under heavy accelleration a wire is coming out of contact and causing a fuel cut ? this would be VERY bad wouldn't it ?

It could be a wire coming out of contact which would cause the car to go into limp mode but once it goes into limp mode it should not go into high RPMS at all, I have also seen these split second boxes do weird things you might just need a reflash on the box.

I would for sure do that . I had my Zeitronix wired in with clips . Screwed with every thing , I couldnt get it to idle right most of the time , would go real rich and bog down .

My car w/ Turbonetics is going all the way down into the LOW 9's between about 4500 and 6200 RPM. Threw a bunch of CEL's, but never went to limp mode.

MAF irregularities typical show up as CEL's. Not always...but typically. So far, we've seen very few, if any, damaged or suspect MAFs in VQ V/I motors.

You can scan MAF voltage, via scantool, and look any annomolies...just to double check.

it's weird, it may happen 1 out of every 20 times, never in first gear, always in 2nd or 3rd,

deff soder the wires we have found that just using clips and connectors is not a good enough connection with the SS box. Feel free to shoot me a call if you need any help or have wiring issues, if you take the box out you may want to just shoot it over to Vortech and have them check it out.

no cel, just goes into limp mode, car doesn't die, just won't rev past 2500 rpm or so. turn car off, back on , car runs great.

ya kinda sounds like the exact thing mine was doing. turn car off, wait a few seconds, turn back on and good as new (well atleast till the next time i got into it) mine would do it fairily consistantly. you might want to do a search on the subject and try clipping the maf. pretty cheap to do and easy. that was the concensus we came to that i was sending to many volts to the ecu at too low an rpm.
i feel your pain though, it would really **** me off when it would happen to me cause it only does it when you are trying to go fast or race someone and your car just cuts out, made me feel like a dick, lol.
