Default Another FI question... Oil Catch Can.

Well after my latest round of FI searches to make sure I have everything I need for a safe FI setup, I ran across an old post talking about an oil catch can.

I don't fully understand the function of this component and want to know if it's important for the typical vortech install? If so, anyone have a link to a manufacturer or a name brand and p/n so I can do a little more research?

TIA

Here's a quote from Sharif regarding oil catch cans:

Catch cans are a very good idea for any F/I application. This device catches any oil in the PCV lines, and delivers oil free air back into the intake stream. Oil in the intake can contribute to detonation, so a lot of F/I guys like to run the cans.
For the Vortech, it's not necessary, but def wouldn't hurt either. The way I see it is; it's cheap, and it can only help, so why not get it if it makes you feel safer.

I had my intake off to put on my return fuel system and this is what I saw.

I installed the Greddy catch can with a couple of modifications. I ran my pcv hose to one side, my vent hose to the other side and the gases exit the front down a tube to the atmosphere.

Do you have any pictures of what you are talking about? This sounds very similar to how I had my last car setup as far as the crank case hose.

Did your question get answered? Here is link to our website. Catch cans are pretty simple devices...nothing really fancy about them. Good idea for forced induction, specially as higher boost levels are acheived.

Are there any simple how-to's on installing the oil catch can? I haven't heard of too many people using the the catch cans with vortech setups, but better safe than sorry.

Sharif, do you have those catch cans in stock in case someone needed one by next weekend?

350ZDCalb posted a how-to a while back. It is very straightforward, although you typically need to do some minor bending of the bracket, to get everything seated correctly. They are universal design, so you might need to do some slight mods to mount it...but nothing too challenging.

I usually carry at least one in stock, but I can always have them drop shipped same day from my supplier as well. No worries.
