vortech sc VS tn st
I posted this thread on g35driver.com but didnt relaly get an answer. I thought maybe i could get more inputs on this forum. sorry guys but im having a hell of a time trying to pick one or the other. I have an g35c 04 5AT. I was leaning more towards the vortech side cause i want soemthing "reliable", but then i want that torque that the turbo gives out. The whining noise if alright but i dont think i can stand it after a couple thousand miles. Is a turbo kit safe on a auto tranny. Safe as in on stock internals. What upgrades do u need to keep it running right. I'm not sure how many ppl on this forum got 5AT ST but if u do have one some inputs on this subject would be very helpful. Basically i'm asking for you to convince me to buy a TN ST. Vortech owners, i would liekt o hear your point of view as well. THanks in advance and i hope to be educated by your future threads. =) - James
i don't have a turbonetics kit, but as far as i have heard they are a very reliable kit and you should be safe internally on stock boost. as for the the tranny, i'm thinking you might wanna do some sort of upgrade before you start boosting.
what kind of upgrades do you think are necessary for a auto tranny other then vb and tc for it to handle more hp?

airdumbo, you should speak to MIAPLAIA, he is the resident turbonetics expert, but I am looking along the same route as you are. The current TN-ST kit will not clear the bell housing on the 5AT, but according to turbonetics a kit for 5AT with piping that would clear the bell houng is due for release in around November. So basically, if you need FI now, Vortech is your only choice.
Good luck

I believe AAM isnt to far from you and if they are doing flashes for the T-netics kit . That would be great for you . The APS ST uses the Unichip for engine management , and I dont know if there are any certified deal-tuner in your area for it . Some one else might know . The Vortech SC uses the simple to use engine management...Split Second . No matter what kit you decide on , Be ready to have some type of problem to over come . You may not have a problem with any of them . I can only speak on the Vortech . You would be better off replacing the serp belt right off the bat with a Gates or Napa belt , as the Goodyear stretches alot . Learn how to tighten the belt , once you do and figure out how tight it needs to be [ very tight ] it shouldnt need to be retightened very often . You can upgrade it very easy with a pulley and a retune to get more hp out of it . Do some research on the problems the other kits are having and what it takes to upgrade them and make up your mind after you have . The Vortech and T-netic are about the same price , the APS ST I think is a little more than the other two .

I think the SC will end up costing less in the long run as I think there are several people running the vortech with the 5at and only got the reflash to raise the rev limit to fix the WOT/rev limiter problem the 5at's have with FI. However the ST will be faster since cars with this mod always trap higher on the track. If you wanted to go that route I would wait for more information on the VB upgrades by SGP racing... VB for sure, I don't know if you need the TC or a tranny cooler since you are going to run stock boost but that wouldn't hurt...
anyone know if the ECU upgrade for the TN SC kit (for 5at) will raise the rev limit so it will shift correctly at WOT?

The blower is definatly cheaper and more reliable in some ways, however the linear fashion of the power got boring to me so I went with Turbos. Turbo systems can cause lots of headaches... when all the kinks are ironed out, it is way worth it.. Now when my buddy and me cruise together (the one I sold my blower to) I can't believe how obnoxious sounding the blower and BOV really are. Now with so many options, i'd probably have gone single turbo for bolt on power. With my twins I at least have the option of a motor rebuild for even more boost.

airdumbo21,
my recommendation to you is to ride in s/c'ed and a ST Z. Then you can decide what would be best for you. I bought a vortech and 3 weeks later sold it for a TT kit. If I would have taken a ride in a s/c and ST or TT car, I would have never bought the vortech. Although you might get the same track times with a vortech and ST kit, the feel of accelartion is different. I love the tq turbos make. Start a new thread and solicit a ride from members in your area. I am sure you can find someone as there are plenty of people in your area that are both s/c'ed and turbo. Good luck with what ever you choose.
