Default What Tire setup are you guys running?

Hey guys, First an update

Car is going into JapTrix to have the oil issues resolved. They're confident that they have solutions in combination with the APS fix to take care of all of my worries, and I should have some numbers by the end of the week. Then I'll start to monkey with the tune with them.

Anyhow my tires are close to toast, well at least the rears. Right now I am running Michlen PS2's, 265x18 front 295x18 rear. To be honest my traction seems to be pretty respectable with the APS ST at stock boost, but again I haven't figured out if everything was running fine so we will see after the work up.

Was just curious if anyone had alternative suggestions for the next set of tires. Quite frankly I don't care about tread life so long as we're not talking every 2,000 miles. Let me know.

~Josh

As far as a good all around tire you have it now. If you want more straight line traction with less cornering ability you can do some BFG drag radials. Will give you all the traction you should need at your power levels. Im pretty sure they make them in a 295/18 size. Im pretty sure Briguymax runs some sort of DR on the street and he has decent traction with 430-460whp.....

I'm running Toyo Proxes T1R's on the street (255/45/17 rear and 245/45/17 front) they are holding up pretty good, even though I should have gotten 275's in the back)

at the Track I'm running ET Streets in the rear 26X10.5 - 15
when competing at IDRC I'm running BFG DR's 275/50/15 with the new tread pattern. Those run pretty damn good on the street as well but you never ever want to hit a puddle with those...

I had the 275/35/19 PS2's for about 18k miles and now I switched to the Bridgestone RE050 A's. They are 285's and they are actually really good for their price. They are almost half of what ps2's are. The wet traction is about 2/3 the grip as the PS2's and the side wall feels a lil softer but you can feather slides real good with these tires.

for the most possilble traction on a z what would u reccomend. ive heard some people talking bout a 17" rx7 wheel with the BFG Drag radials. would this work well or be enough traction at around 550-600whp in your opinion?

Thanks

Thanks guys, I like the PS2's a lot right now and was not sure if there were any better all around tire yet. Not really looking to sacrifice cornering for straight shot as the car actually seems to have relatively good straight traction so far,

P.S. Jaki, my lil bro goes to UM, he's a senior... What the hell was up with Ga Tech halftime show man?

Ps2's are great, we run a 285/30/18 front (18x8.5" rim) and a 315/30/18 rear (with a 18x9.5" rim) This combo. is great for all around performance!

RX-7 wheels are 16x8 with a +50 offset. I know of some supra owners who run these on the rear with a 255/50-16 BFG Drag Radial or Slick. They make two different RX7 wheels however (even though they look identicle from the outside/front). One is the older model (off a 93 model) and weighs in at only 13.6lbs and the other (94 and 95 model) is reinforced and weighs about 16 lbs. Basically it can be seen on the inside of the wheel. The non-reinforced wheels have a sort of void in the spokes. They are all cast.

You can find them used for extremely cheap (like $400 for all four with tires), but if you don't want to worry about cracking a rim, get the reinforced ones.

Seriously, cuz my 285's on my 9.5" rear are dead flush with a slight bulging starting to appear. Im curious how that would look or even fit on a 8.5. If a 315 fits fine on a 9.5 then I wonder if I could get a 305. That would be hot.
We need Pictures tho.

I'm going with a set of drag radials for the next set. Either Nitto 555r or the BFG's. At least for the rear tires. There's a new goodyear drag radial coming out soon that may be nice. I think it's the Eagle SS. My rear wheel is 18x9, so I'll try to get a 295/30 on it, and go 275/30 on the front.

I run Nitto Drag Radials 555R's 18x9.5 on the rear and Nitto 555's 18x7.5 on the front.

Has anyone used the Pirelli PZero Corsa ?

They come in 19's too, and that's what I need.

Here is some pics of the rear 315/30/18 on a 9.5" Nissmo wheel. (Vision 619 posted these last time someone questioned our tire size choices)

thanks man!!! Doesn't look like it's buldging too horrible actually

What about handling? Doesn't having a big buldge with the tire change the stiffness of the tire a little so the tire ends up not handling as well?

I do want a 315 on my rear 10.5 rim, but we'll see...

Yes the Corsa's are a pretty good track/street tire. (just stay out of the rain with them) Here is a pic of a 18" Corsa (315/30/18) on a 18x9.5" Nissmo wheel (our rear track tire)

The handling on these size tires (285/30 front & 315/30 rear) is actualy great and well balanced. IMO, the bigest patch of ruber you can put to the ground safeley (without rubbing) the better.
