Was never trying to discount the areas you are saying to check, but the FMU can obviously be a factor because it was the problem point on my car. I posted a thread about this last summer and know at least one other person who had a similar issue at that time who rebuilt their FMU and no longer had a problem after that.

Brother mcduck I have not recommended changing anything simply saying check the lines periodically although I would support changing all the fittings to a more secure design..Getting back to the FMU I remain skeptical unless and until someone can explain how a sticking FMU can cause the lines to come loose, not doubting your theory simply not convinced of it..

Totally agree with Mcduck! Had the exact same problem, wish i would have took pic's. Fuel deposites accumulate around the washer in the FMU and it gets stuck! All that psi and no place to go.I rebuilt mine and no problems ever since.Didn't think about using injector cleaner but a very good idea.

Is this a generic problem with the design or results from a bad tank(s) of gas..? Not heard of many cars having this specific problem so far..What's the best theory on why it happens?

Hey mcduck, when u say rebuild the FMU, what exactly are u rebuilding. I had this problem happen to me over the weekend and trying to figure out how to solve it. Is there a connector that holds the male and female fuel lines together?
I'm also looking for the thread where u stated how to fix this, but can't find it.

Yea i just bought the kit. My problem, is over the weekend the fuel line male connector (from the gas tank) disconnected from the fuel line leading up to the intake manifold (female elbow piece). I dont know how they are held together, is there a clamp? I'm kinda confused at this point as someone tells me there is no clamp and another tells me there is a clamp. There must be, because when i connect the 2 male and female plugs, they are really really loose. Can u chime in some?

That sounds like a bad install of the fuel system . Im sure the shop that did the install will fix the problem

Not saying better fittings/clamps would not be an improvement, but there are potentially other issues folks should be checking as part of a regular maintanence routine on the Vortech. Just like the car has a maintanence schedule provided by Nissan, you should be checking key components of the Vortech kit at regular intervals.

Besides this issue, the cleaning of the oil jet, and just examining the belt for wear, are there any other issues specific to the Vortech? I keep coming across new issues and thought maybe someone who knows more than I do could list the things to watch out for. I've read many posts on this but haven't seen a list of periodic maintenance items like you have for the rest of the car.

The oil jet can be checked when you clean your air filter [ once - twice a year ] The belt...after it stretches the first time....needs to tightened once in a while . Once you do it...it can be done in 10 minutes . It takes me 3 minutes with out taking the belly pan off . I reach down in front of the motor and feel for the bolt to tighten . None of this is a big deal . People seem to make it alot more than it is .

IPO ...if you cant tighten the belt , clean your air filter and oil squirter . You shouldnt have gone FI in the first place .

Thanks for bringing this thread back buffmanjeff, good one. Any hints on preventing this from happening before I install my kit? What fitting would you change and to what? Not expensive AV ones!!

I have no idea why this happened. I took off at a stop light and i knew right away that something was wrong. Pulled over and smelt fuel. i'm trying to find the dam clip that goes with the stock system. I called nissan and they ordered me the piece, but it will take some time to get. My only guess, it wasn't installed properly and put securely into place. fackkkk.

Expected, they will be worked out. When u drop a bunch of mods into a car, there will be bugs. But in the mean time, can't drive the Z until i figure this problem out Gonna go to autozone in a bit and look for that piece.

This is not where I experienced my problem.. Mine occurred at the Tee from the FMU to the Aux Fuel pump.(vortech H/W). This problem looks like it is a factory fuel fitting that may of been improperly installed/reinstalled after the fuel system was modified for the vortech install..The thing mcduck was referring to is a kit that vortech sells that can be used to rebuild the FMU..

I got the problem fixed. The blue/green fuel clamp thingy (as shown in the link) was not put on at installation. Put it on and now its not coming apart.
