Default shop got the heads off....head lift ?

Shop got the motor out and heads off today . I went up to look to see where the heads were leaking at . All three Cyl. on the drivers side broke the head gasket seal on the intake manifold side . Not in between the Cyl.'s
The drivers side also looked to be running slightly leaner than the passengers side. Does the Utec or the AEM EMU's control individual cyl. injector pulses ?

AEM does individual cyl tuning IIRC, but your better off fixing the imbalance then you trying to tune around it!

was your longblock all stock when this happened?

No..SGP Short block , 8.5 CP's ,Pauter , ARP's stock trq. . Running 13 to 14 psi with the Vortech . I had the o2 bung on the passenger side . We are going to move it to the X pipe , or the drivers side if it will not reach the X .

Forgot to add , 550's and return fuel

id double check and make sure all surfaces are true. Possibly sunk sleeve? What were the symptoms that made you pull the heads in the first place?

Water pushing out of the motor and filling the overflow tank when boosting . They are going to check the sufaces of the block and heads

if all checks out, id recommend getting the heads o-ringed while they are off. ALso id prolly torque the ARPs up another 10ft-lbs and get a retune with more conservitive timing maps.

Goodluck man.

If you would please take some pics of the HKS headgasket when you get it. According to their site it has o rings built in. I hope thats true and if it is it might be the headgasket to get from now on..

I'll be getting my HKS gasket today (into my hot little hands). I'll try to take some pics and post them.

Booger, sorry to hear that. This head lift stuff definitely came to light after you and I (and many of the brethren) built teir motors. I too am putting in the HKS hg and L19 studs.

By "imbalance" do you mean.... making sure that it's rich enough on the drivers side , which would mean running really rich on the passenger side . Or do you mean evening out the air flow to both sides ? If you meant air flow how do you go about it with the plenum we are stuck with ?

Wow, I'd def look at timing also. Was this block sleeved? We've been running 20 psi (w/ less timing) on pump for a while w/ no issues on CP's and crowers on OE head gaskets. The heads are tied down with ARP's @ their trq specs.

What were your timing numbers at?

Not a sleeved block . Timing was taken out gradually , 1/2 degree for every 1 psi to 10psi then pulling 6 @ 11psi .... 7 @ 12psi .... 8 @ 13psi . Pulling 8 degree's from 5900rpm's [ 13psi ] when my belt starts to slip and boost wavers from 13 to 13.9psi

Im logging the knock sensor and at one time I did see some big changes in volts from it and pulled a little more timing to what is stated above . After that Ive never seen a change volt after . Remember this is on a SC

I am currently putting in the L19's and Cometic HG's as well. I have heard about the HKS HG, but have not seen one yet. I would love to see pics. How long does it take to get one? Anyone have them in stock?
