APS ST Smoking... arghhh
Alright well, my car is still smoking and it is white exhaust smoke. Smells rich also. Is the smoking always going to be there since I have no cats and the exhaust is wide open? Or should I still be worried about this?

Edit - I saw that you already replaced the valve. Next step is to check all the lines. If that checks out then its possible the turbo seals have gone bad. You may want to consider a leakdown test also...
Sorry for all your troubles.....seems like it never ends...kinda why I sold my car

Inspect the oil closely. Milky, gravy, grey...
Ugly
Also take a look at the turbos and see if there is burned oil residue on or around the area. Perhaps also one of the turbos themselve lost a seal...They might need to be rebuilt.
Good Luck.

im not smoking at all, maybe this is just leftover oil residue in the downpipe or exhaust that hasnt burnt off yet , id watch it for a little while and see if it gets better, than take the above measures.
White smoke from exhaust is normally a sign of a pending head gasket failure. Does it smoke after start-up? Then you rev it up a bit and it goes away? I'd get it checked out and fixed, before it causes more damage.

Ehhh I never did it thinking I'd be 100% problem free. The smoke smells like gas honestly. So I can't tell if it is "oily" or unburnt fuel. Unfortunately either I'm not very perceptive OR there isn't enough smoke to tell what color it truly is. Kind of whitish, but I couldn't say if it was grey or pewter or whatever
I have a rear waiting for me at JapTrix so I'll talk to them about it on Monday. Was going to go down today until I remember I am the elected chef for today's bar-b-q for my buddies. Sometimes going to culinary school bites you in the ***.

are you being too paranoid and just seeing the cold start condensation and fuel? No cats and open exhaust will not cause any visual smoke. Are you letting the car get up to temp? Its normal for it to appear smokey while its still cold and even sometimes for a few min after getting up to full temp. I am not sure if you have let the car run for a while or if you are just starting it up and shutting it off?

You would know if it is oil that is being burned. You could EASILY smell it. That leads me to beleive it is a bit of excess fuel or what phunk posted above
I let it come up to temp. I actually have been just cruising around without too much boosting for maybe 100 miles since I noticed and YES it is def thicker at start due to condensation + quasi cold weather... I know 60 isn't cold but I am from Florida.... But I DO smell something and like I said it smells like gas more than oil. But I wanted to make sure because I still have small wisps of smoke after it runs for a bit. We need smell-o-net so I can share the aroma. Happy New Year guys...

hey jergens,
i have not followed your other threads, so this is the only input i can offer you.
the newer single turbo kits are being shipped with a solenoid that opens/closes to keep oil from backing up into the turbo, as opposed to a check valve. There is a picture floating around here somewhere.
This solenoid eliminates the smoking issue you are observing.
How do I know?
Let's just say that for one reason or another, I had to remove my solenoid and my car now smokes during initial driving. After about a minute or so on the road, the smoking stops.
Once I turn off the car and let it sit and re-start it, the smoke returns, but then goes away after driving. This leads me to believe the solenoid works and may be more effective than the check valve on earlier APS ST kits.
How do I know the smoke is oil burning? I check my oil levels and I have lost about 1.75 quarts over roughly 800-1000 miles of driving. I have no leaks anywhere, so it must be coming out of my exhaust. The smoke coming out of the exhaust looks white, but it might be blue. How can you really tell? I don't know how to really distinguish white smoke (coolant) and blue smoke (oil). But it does smell like oil.
When I bring the car back for the APS exhaust, I am getting a new solenoid. I'll also ask the guys at the shop to check out my intercooler as Tig has found about 1 qt of oil in his intercooler during his smoking problems.
Hope this helps.
