Exclamation Detonation? Would my SES light come on?

Ok, I have posted and pm'd several people about this, and every piece of information that I received was very beneficial, but first off in very direct language, what exactly would detonation sound like (i am in the process of making a video, but it will be awhile, my camera is in storage), and does detonation cause the car to noticeably lose power?

I have had the same problem code on my car since my tn kit was installed and the ses light has gone off. I am awaiting a tune on the 23rd of this month and have to definatively decided to resist the urges of boost until then. Please help me decide what to do about the car, the earliest I can have it tuned is on the 23rd, and my mechanic believes that the noise is clutch chatter, but honestly, the noise that is coming from my car happens under boost and WOT.

Thanks

Detonation can only be heard properly in a closed environment like a dyno with a knock detector hooked to a mic. (As done on the Utec) but if you do no have that the next best way is to roll up the windows turn off AC, radio, etc. Do a WOT pull in 3rd and listen for what sounds like some one shooting pebbles at your firewall with a machine gun...

detonation is caused by lean mixtures of gas that is why a some tuners richen up A/F ratios as safety measures.

If this guy is a mechanic he has no clue what is going on you need to go to a tuner who specializes in these kinds of problems.

Did this start after the exhaust was installed?

yes it started after the exhaust, the a/f's are dead on, I think that is why my mechanic said it was what it was. And the more, I think about it I can't wait to get the car tuned. I pretty much have the same set up as both of you guys too, kind of strange.
