I have A Vortec As well. You absolutely need a good dyno tune and cat back exhaust. In an issue of Road and Track they compared 4 different f/i set ups and the Vortec was as fast as the greddy twn. 0-60 in4.9 and the1/4 was 13.0, not bad. No my car is no Vette but still pretty quick.

you can't just slap on a SC and couple of bolt ons and expect to waste everyone. Yes, your exhaust becomes a huge restriction with FI.
My recommendation:
- a true dual exhaust (HKS or something similar)
- new fuel injector
- reflash 'after' all your mods are done, or you can go with an emage, now.
