Rear wheel bolt....wheel almost came off while driving
mods please don't move this. I posted this in the brake section a few hours ago, but all I hear is crickets over there. Since most the knowledgeable members (motor wise) post in the FI section I thought I might get a faster response here.
I was driving home from work tonight and the car started making a wierd noise and then all of the sudden the rear end got loose. I pulled over to the side of the road and drove slowly while I looked at my rear wheel and I noticed it was wobbling back and forth. I stoped the car and further investigated and I found that one of the wheel bolts broke off and the other 4 lug nuts were loose. This chit is crazy as I was driving 140mph yesterday.
How do you replace one of the wheel bolts? About how much does it cost?

No tq wrench. I used the factory jack handle to tightened them.

You might want to buy yourself a torque wrench. They're not too expensive. They come in real handy every once in a while. I think some parts stores rent them, but that's a hassle. Again, they're not too expensive. I keep my lug nuts torqued to 85 ft-lbs. Apply firm, smooth pressure to the wrench handle with no jerking movements. Stop tightening when the torque wrench "tells" you to stop. Drive 50 miles. Torque them down again. Check them once per month. Your torque wrench will not over-tighten the lug nuts if you have it set properly. Good luck.

dude..glad u are ok!!!! your rim pushed in slightly...something shifted in your rearend, probably from sort of lateral sliding (you drift monster you)...this loosened the lugs, the one broke because the wheel was wobbling...

Sadly, I can tell you that each broken lugnut costs ~ $83/ea (installed) through the stealership. Do that three times and you become VERY picky about how your wheels are taken off/re-installed...
