Default Stock APS TT kit......510 rwhp, 460 ft.lbs

Well guys....I saw a car at a local shop today who has the APS TT kit installed on a stock motor. He has the kit, dual APS exhaust, APS plenum, and the APS 3.5" downpipes. The car was dynoed this morning and the car made 510 rwhp and 460 ft.lbs. Boost was hitting 13 lbs. We are trying to figure out the issue here. We thought maybe with the 3.5" downpipes that the boost was not being bled off by the wastegates. I had seen several APS kits who could not boost past 8 or 9 lbs with the stock actuators. Air/Fuel is mid 11's to redline. Any ideas??

The 3.5 test pipes and 3" exhaust will do that.

You will need to get into the unichip and reduce the boost cycle.

We had to do that to maximum's install.

Make the guy put race fuel in it! Or he could put a Water/Methanol injection on it!
Besides tuning the unichip - what about a boost controller? That is what I did, plus, I was able to get more low end torque this way by tunning the gain. I am now almost flatlining my torque at 410 all the way across the rpm's at 9.2 psi. Funny thing is - I was dynoes at a lot more before, yet was boosting at 11psi! I am probably the only one excited about taking some hp out of the car.

What he said, as you can see from my sig I had all the above mods out the box and was hitting 12pounds westpak dropped the boost the first time it was still hitting high, he had to drop it some more to get it right.

I hope you have a shop that can tune the unichip I would be careful with that type of power on a stock block especially untuned....

is the car detonating??? If you keep an eye on AFR's and some sort of knockbox, I'd roll with it too. with no detonation, it should last awhile...

It's not my car....just a friends. There was no detonation that we could hear....but with the APS exhaust it was so damn loud I don't think you would hear it if it happened. He want's to drive it like it is....but I am telling him to get the Unichip dialed back a bit. Problem is that the installers are not authorized APS dealers and can't change the tune locally. Block is completely stock. I have no faith that it will last very long. This guys clutch was burned out in 6000 miles....if that is an indicator of his driving ability style.

I feel our blocks are alot stronger than what people tend to say they are. I remember when 400rwhp was the limit, but once people started to realize its more about tuning and having a capable piggyback or standalone, we are starting to see better results. I have seen more and more 500rwp lately and that just amazes me.

I really hope he takes time to have the unichip tuned again so nothing will go wrong.

With a good tune the horsepower is doable then it turns in the engine longevity depending on driving habits.
