Old thread but good info.

My questions:

Gspot is inactive since 2011, what wastegate did he use? I am looking for a specific brand/size so I know exactly what to buy. The fact that he used no boost controller keeps costs low as heck.

the 928 motorsports BLV will not work from what I understand because it will be dumping metered air. Has this option worked for anybody? If there is a spot between the maf anf blower to dump it may work but also may dump too much boost?

Third options is the HKS valve america was talking about. Did this ever come to fruition?

I would go with the tried and tested wastegate method but I do not know what brand/size Gspot used since I cannot PM him.

Let me know some updated info guys thanks.

PS I'm from the dark side (Gdriver) Check out my build thread there, I'm not a thread noob. Sorry to bring up an old thread...

Just use a waste gate that has the correct spring for your PSI desire. The boost controller slows things down too much.

Good Luck!

928 BLV works perfectly fine. I had it installed on my piping right before it goes into the intercooler. I used it when I was stock block and made 430@11psi on a Si blower. If I could go back, I would of never got it and just revved it on out and seen what it could make. There are a few vortech guys making great power on stock block.

Oh crap! You're back? Never left? I went to your profile and it said last activity was in 2011!

I found here https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...ml#post1448772

that you used a 35mm turbosmart just a second ago.

I was worried about going too large or small with the wastegate but if 35mm works we're good!

The BLV or HKS valve seem like really good options also, but this is tried and proven.

As for the BLV from 928, how fast does it react? Does it dump too much? Are you dumping metered air? (I'm not sure if the vortech kit is set up so the maf is pre or post compressor? I haven't gotten my kit yet...)

Is there a reason you are built now? I don't want to rebuild any time soon, my stock longblock DE has 30k on it!

I'm only looking for 400WHP but want to get that torque as fast as possible. Current mods are headers, HFC's, 3" catback, plenum spacer, one piece aluminum driveshaft, LSD, solid engine mounts, solid diff mounts z1 lightweight flywheel with street performance clutch and much more. Future mods are 650CC injectors return fuel system vortech kit, colder plugs GT MAF, etc.

Thanks for the quick replies, I'm in the market for a used vortech kit if anybody here has one... Not sure what modifications are needed for a Z kit to fit a 6spd G sedan.

I'm on a Stock Block, 42,000+ miles, no problems if tuned right. I'm also making 577 whp.

Put a 3.12 pulley on and be done with it. it will make right around 400whp.

No need to bleed off Boost. All of that energy, the motor is working to turn the blower, the blower is suppling all of that air ( potential HP) to bleed it off is a waste of energy. Very in-efficent.......

Your numbers are amazing. You've never blown a motor with your setup?

Everybody else is saying 400WHP is the limit before you are asking for problems. 577... Wow. That's one crazy 1/4 mile time too.

I was thinking of going with the 3.12 and calling it a day until I read about this option. I will probably just take your advice. I just don't want to be disappointed with how fast the car feels and would like to hit low 12's in the 1/4 mile.

Thank You.

I've never touched my motor, it's a 2003 touring with 42,000+ miles with the SC. Hundreds of hard runs on the street, and about 50 passes at the dragstrip. TUNING IS KEY!

You car will run good with thee 3.12

It's is just the Nature of a Centrifical blower, It builds boost with rpm. It will start to come on strong around 3500-4000 rpm, just no way around it.

You will need to do a lot more to your car to get in the low 12's, that said with proper slicks and a good setup it could do high 12's

I'm imagining it will be cheaper to do more mods now and better in the long run.

Aside from tires and built bottom end, what would your next step be?

High Quality Fuel System

Mine is a CJM Stage 2, Dw300 Pump and 600cc Dw injectors (Dw=Deatchworks)

A CJM return system is already on my list, I'm not sure if I mentioned that earlier along with DW 550CC's. Already have a 255 walbro.

What about after the RFS? What next?

Curious; what crank pulley are you running?

I was looking into running my UR underdrive pulley but even with the 2.87 it only spins the blower up to ~44k as opposed to 49k with the stock crank pulley and 3.12 SC pulley. 53.7k is the rpm the 2.87 spins it up to with the stock crank, small difference if you ask me from the 3.12 to the 2.87.

I'd go for the 2.87 but I don't want to blow my motor right off the bat... That's why I started looking into this wastegate option, awesome torque curve plus it would sound so cool all without stressing the motor. The turbine is a different story... Even with the 2.87 it is still within the limits vortech claims (54k) but it is right on the bubble. You seem to be doing fine, my tuner thinks otherwise. He is hesitant to go for the 3.12...

I use the Stock Crank Pulley.......

Using a UR underdrive pulley is "THE WORST IDEA EVER"

1. It has no Harmonic Balancing effect and eat up your motor in very little time.
2. You would lower your Blower Speed (Backwards Thinking)
3. You want the Largest pulleys you can fit, and still achieve your wanted Blower Speed. (The Larger the pulley the less belt slip)

Almost everyone that has had a Vortech Kit for any length of time has gone to the 3.12 pulley, more have gone to the 2.87. (remember the smaller the Driven Serp Pulley the faster the Blower Speed)

Tuners don't want yo be responsible if your car brakes, though few of them will take responsible if it does.

Deatchworks does not make a 550cc injector for a 350z that I know off. hummmmm

Do your Return Fuel System with Injector and and Pump.

Install the 3.12 Pulley

Tune and your Done.

I'll update this thread with numbers when I get them. Thanks for the advice, I'll go from there.
