Default Belt for 3.12 and 2.87 Pulley The Same??

I did some searching and I have read that the same belt can be used for the 2.87 pulley as is used for the 3.12 pulley and it is 93" long. Is this correct? I got a quote from a vendor on here and was quoted $150 for the pulley and belt. So, I am looking for cheaper sources to get my cost down a little more! So far, I have found the pulley for $70 shipped (www.summitracing.com) and if I can reuse the belt I am currently using(it has about 5-6k miles on it) I can save close to $80!

Can several guys who have run and/or are running the 2.87 pulley please comment on this and what size belt you are using? If you have a belt part number, that would be great.

As an FYI, I am planning on adding test pipes, a magnaflow "X" pipe in place of my resonators on my Injen SES exhaust to keep down the rasp, a WG with either a 8 or 10 psi spring and then retuning with the 2.87 pulley. It has been done by gspot35 and I want to see how well it works. Worst case, I am out the couple hundred bucks for the custom weld and fab I will have to get done to fit the WG and I can sell the parts I have already purchased.

I know that you are supposed to retune after you do any mods with F/I, but I was wondering, if I go ahead and have the exhaust work(TP and X pipe) done here locally and then drive the car, staying out of boost , will it be OK to drive until I retune? My AFRs at my last tuning session were in the high 11s and dipped into the 12s in ONLY 2 spots briefly. I have been quoted about 3x what I can pay someone locally to do the exhaust work.

Thanks for the help in advance.

i think it's the same belt

i'm going to go with the 2.87 pulley and just have a bunch of timing pulled, and water injection and half race gas - it'll depend on where my car ends up dynoing

if you stay out of boost you can drive safely. I drove from Miami to CPrace with a freshly built block and greddy tt untuned.

Yes its the same 93 inch belt . You can get the pulley from Vortech . And the belt from NAPA .
If you get it from Vortech , ask to makes sure it will fit the jackshaft . Ask them to compare the exact 2.87 pulley they are going to send you , to a 3.12 for our kits . thw 2.87 for our kit needs to be milled down some .

it's too thick or something? I read something about this earlier

I just ordered the 2.87 2 days ago. This is something a shop can fix if need be right?

The side that goes up against the jackshaft has to be milled down . It is slightly wider..yes . But the concaved part needs to milled out also . If you look at the 2 pulleys side by side , you should be able to tell the difference .
Some guys have ordered it from Vortech with no problems [ it was milled to fit and re-anodized ] I was the first one to order one that didnt work and tore up the edges of the jackshaft . Some one else did the sam thing a few weeks ago

I was just curious if you could order one straight from them already milled, anodized and ready to go, and that was a no-go

I called vortech and they said they do not do any milling or anything like that there. So you have to have a machine shop mill the pulley down for you.

I remember reading about this as well. Since there are many different Vortech setups that can run the 2.87 pulley, would it be a toss up of getting the "good" one from whoever I buy it from? In other words, will I have the same chances of getting a "good" pulley if I get it from Summit versus Vortech directly? If I buy a pulley and take a pic of it, can someone on here identify it as being "good" or "bad".

Unless a shop or parts place says it will fit for sure . I would think it will be hit and miss . Its funny , several guys that had ordered them from Vortech got the ones that fit . And several other have them that fit . I only know of two of us that got the unmilled ones . All the good ones were anodized so they had to have been made by Vortech
