Default Honest Price Estimate for F/I

Hey guys, I'm working 60 hours a week and have saved up around 6,000 dollars. I want to go F/I on my 03 5 A/T so bad I can taste it. I still am workin so will be able to make more money and just want an estimate on how much it will cost me. I have been looking at the TN kit and seem to hear good things about it.

I live in Columbus, OH so does anyone know a good place I can get it done at around me?

Thanks for your help.

I am not totally sure but I would say w/ gauges and install + tune you should have probably 10K saved up for the whole thing plus some incidentals...

Nice job saving up so far!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Yep 10K is about the right amount of money for going turbo.

Going FI for the VQ35 is very expensive no matter what kit you plan on purchasing. The problem is people look at the short term goal of buying the kit, gauges and tuning to what is "safe". You are using best case scenarios. What you should be looking at is the aforementioned best case build as well as what can possibly go wrong.

With that said take your best case estimate and double it. That should put you in the ballpark.

Also if you can't afford to replace your motor with a build motor if a catastrophic failure happens, DO NOT GO FI. There is a good reason for that. Just about all of the FI kits for the VQ will do the job but the strength of the internals of a stock VQ motor seem to be all over the map. The FI kit manufacturers CANNOT nor should not account of that(stock VQ motor strength).

Good luck.

well mine was a TT install and nothing was done by me everything was done by the shop ill give you a list of the things that i bought to monitor and make it safe

Greddy TT/ FMIC
fuel pump
autosport wiring
BOV with flange
J&S Safegaurd (very good and engine saving mod)
blitz SBC-i color boost controller
Innovated motorsports A/F wideband gauges
defi BF boost gauge
Defi link controller
greddy turbo timer
triple gauge pillar
install plus tune

mine was around the 10,220 without exhaust 3inch turbo back pipes with w/g dumps and plenum this was another 2700 or so installed.

As you can see its alot of money but look at my list its pretty big. Also your install should be a little less due to it difficulty level its easier and i bought expensive gauges and boost controller. maybe youll save 300 to 400 maybe a little more depends. Hope this helps

You need a buffer for the funds JIK. Especially some diapers for passengers in the future.

I was going to say that you can have the Vortech SC added for around $7-8k. Here is roughly my breakdown going off the top of my head.

Vortech kit - $4450 shipped
Install - $1400
Tuning - $400
Additional gauges, etc - $600-800

If you add a smaller SC pulley, the initial install would be the best time to do so as you owuldnt have to pay to retune like I have done. The belt and pulley are an additional $125-150.

Just so everyone knows, I am not making this into a SC vs. ST vs. TT debate, just stating my expenses in going F/I. The costs are going to be all over the board depending on what kit you buy and what fancy gauges or other safety items you decide to go with.

One thing everyone should keep in mind is the very strong possibility of blowing up the stock motor. You really need to have that very real possibility built into your budget because it can happen with any tune at any time. Going FI on the Z comes with a real chance of more big expense down the road.
