This is a bad idea. Having an FI car is nice, but not worth going into debt over.

Like people say, don't do it unlesss you can afford the kit and can also scrape together enough in the case you blow your motor.

I personally paid cash...

I put it all on a credit card. The card had a 0 % introductary interest offer for a year. Of course I paid the card off with in the year so I wouldn't pay any interest. You can also roll the balance over to another credit card if you have to. So it is possible to get free money loaned to you (no interest). Actually the credit card paid me to loan me the money. I got bonus points from around $15 k in purchases....with meant gas cards and cash back bonus. Now I blew my motor and just admire my car in the garage

Everything as of yet has been paid for cash (well debit card technically), but I have thought about financing my motor build recently. I know alot of people have enough in reserves just incase they blow their motor, but I just don't have that kind of money. I guess I would say, don't take out a loan or anything just to get the turbo(s) on the car, because you will have to take out yet another loan if you blow the motor. One loan is alright it seems, but taking out a second isn't going to be fun (double the power=double the debt ).

Im not FI, and i want to be badly. But not to take out a loan. Loans to me are for houses, cars , and bad situations..not for adding to a car that already runs. Im just putting money away to go FI. a little here and there adds up. Gonna save to do a build and kit together..save time, and money, and peace of mind.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! All I know is that I went into this whole modification situation intending to spend around $10K.... now I'm at around $25k... and my car is still not running right!

^^ Obviously something went wrong, carefully planned $25K will get you any FI kit + a built block and needed accessories to make big power and have no issues...

^^You are right... if I had to do it all over again... I would have planned better and went to a reputable shop... BUT my point is that you should expect and plan for things to go wrong....because things do go wrong and you need to buy expensive bandaids to fix them!

Save money, you might get fired. I was about to buy rims and I got fired, thank God I had some money laying around, I had like a month and a half's pay set aside.

I agree with what most have said. Getting a loan is a bad idea. Have patience and only do it when you actually have the means to.

I think its is a little too optomistic to ever say "have no issues" when it comes to a high horsepower motor...especially when that motor is modified to get that horsepower. It would be nice if there were a certain amount of money one could spend to ensure success in the mod world. The fact is there will be always more maintenance, care and potential for issues after modding. This is not pessimism...its reality. If you don't have the money to pay- don't play.

I know... I could do that today and I might end up doing that yet. I really am reading all I can and talking to people in order to see how realiable a built motor would be at 500 rwhp. Many people think building is the "cure all" but I'm not too sure I have a hard time believing I could be happy with my Z without boost... How are your cars doing?

I pay for all mods with cash. I suggest you do the same. It's just not worth it to take a loan for mods.

I am still trying to figure out how to save up 10 to 20k to do one of these FI jobs (and get it past my wife).

I read this section of the forum, and wonder what the hell everyone does for a living...
