Default DAngerous Backfiring on Starup

Hey guys,

I hear there are a ton of tech savvy 350 guys on here and i have a huge problem with a Greddy TT G35 coupe.

When I hop in the car to go to work in the morning and when I leave to go home at night it always sounds like a damn rifle being fired next to my head.....let me explain. When I get in and click the key to the "on" position....a massive backfire happens.....this is before i even try and start the car, it's just when it is clicked in to the "on" position. Any thoughts on this issue. It really is kind of nerve wracking and dangerous.

For more info head over to G35driver.com and check out my post on this:

Thanks for the input.

Dave

Not sure if a re-tune will help a problem that occurs when the car is off.......if it is the tune it would have to be something with the A/F characteristics at the time I shut it down in order to cause the problem I am having....

But good to see you on here Joey! Hope all is well with the Z!!!

I maybe off here , but your spark plugs shouldnt fire with the key turned just to the on position . Are you running the old E-manage ? It is known for frying coils if the key is left in the on position for more than a minute . It maybe the combination of extra fuel in the cyl. and the E-manage problem .

Well I am going to go through the E-manage settings tomorrow and see if there is an arrant ignition on start up. I think my throttle position sensor is fried from all the backfires as well (won't hold a steady idle) even after resetting the ECU and doing the throttle position learning thingy. (sigh)

Anymore help before I tear it apart tomorrow would be useful....suggestions......ideas.....I'm up for anything at this point......

Is one of your tailpipes darker than the other?

if one side is running than the other you can isolate the situation to one side and then go from there. it might be mechanical

Has the car been setting for a while or had bad gas? I just recently ran into the exact problem with a friend and after we ran the **** out of the car for 15 minutes and burned some carbon out it stopped...and this was because of a tune that was set too rich. Not sure if it'll be the same fix though, but hope it helps.
