Default Project going broke....

Holy Crap!

So I saved up about $17k to get a build engine in order to hit the mid 600whp mark. If I ever want to go higher I don't want to start over again so I want to get the engine done right from the start....Sleeved block and all.
Now it seems everyday this cost goes up once everything is included.

So I got the engine priced right now at $11560
then there's the fcon or EMS $3000
then I just found out the APS fuel system is $1990
ATS clutch $2000
Actuators don't know yet (guess is $500?)
can I get away with a 2.5 test pipes and exhaust? Probably not

of course then there's the core charge of $2500 (which I should get back but not right away)

then there's the engine swap cost and turning probably another 4k

so we're now at around $25500

How in the universe do you guys afford this???????

I make good money but holy crap

I think I have to rethink all this and just upgrade my shortblock and push to 550...but even then it'll be steep

I am seriosly frustrated I was so looking forward to this

I'm ready to just cry now

I'm not an expert on fuel systems, but is the APS system better than the AAM? Cuz i thought the AAM system was supposed to be great and i think it's priced lower. I know you can find a decent clutch cheaper than $2k...I mean the JWT is supposed to hold 550whp and i got mine for only like $400 at performance nissan. I didnt know F-Cons were 3k! Damn!!! The AEM EMS is coming out for the Z now and it's supposed to be up to par with the F-con from what i've heard, maybe you should look into it, i cant see it being more than $1500.

Edit: Holy ****! Almost 12k for just the engine!?!?! You should be putting down over 1000hp with that price man. Have you talked to Kyle that used to work at SGP?

well.. not much i can help you with here... but ill say that you can spend $1000 less on the fuel system and still have plenty of space for 600rwhp

I have been tuning some UTECs lately and for 500-550rwhp I think they are great if you dont need the endless features of the FCON or AEM. Yesterday I just tuned a piston/rod w/ APS TT car to 515rwhp at 11.5psi... all he has is the APS TT, the pistons and rods, JWT S1 cams, and deatchworks 550cc injectors with the standard junky APS TT kit fuel system. Next week I am putting in a very inexpensive NISMO fuel pressure regulator so I can put a few more psi in there and thats that... if he had 1/2" headstuds i would take it to 550-600 with 650cc injectors.

The engine would hold probably 1k whp as I said I wanted to do it right

The AAM once you add the injectors iand fuel pump s actually more expensive

How much whp can you safely tune to using 1/2" studs without sleeving?

good question. this year i went from a sleeved block to a stock sleeve block, and I have no worries... but I have turned down my goals to 650rwhp, because I would like the car done this year so I can move onto something else next year.

So you're saying you're comfortable with the motor holding at 550whp with 1/2" studs, Nismo FP regulator, pistons and rods?

I would do a return fuel system, proper sized injectors, engine management, pistons/rods, headgaskets, and 1/2" studs.

The only reason I am using a Nismo FPR on the car I mentioned is because the customer doesnt want to spent the $1000 for a complete fuel system, and I am just massaging the existing parts for a more comfortable 515rwhp... if he even wanted another 10hp I would prescribe a full return setup.

The prices seem about right if you're trying to go to $600. Why try to save a little money on the engine management when you spend all that cash on the motor. Not worth it IMO. I would go with the CJM return fuel system though and save $1K though, It will support 600whp all day.

The price is steep, but be glad you were not one of the first. I have spent twice that much.

Problem is that from what I understand I need better injectors and an upgraded fuel pump as well not just a return system and that comes to around 2k..
The APS has all that included and since I truly believe in their products from experience I think that the best choice.

I wouldn't say $8000 is a "little" money...at least not for me

i like the title, lol. sometimes in the classified section you can find good deals on moderately used parts that can save ya a bunch of money. also, doing as much as you can yourself will save ya a ton in labor charges.
i picked up my greddy tt with 1k miles for $2600 minus the e-blue and injectors!!!

I know how you feel =/ what all came with $11560? At that price it should be sleeved and etc. Seems about the same price i paid for my build.
