Question Headgames/Cosworth Heads - Comparisons?

Considering one these heads for my build, has anyone compared flow or build quality?

There was a post in the general Performance section that turned into a debate/ semi informative thread. Pics and some flow chart #'s were posted. Also opinions on both sets of heads. May wanna check it out....

Biggest advantage with going with Headgames is you have flexibility with Dave - NA Head - no problem, FI Street Heads - sure thing, or full FI Race Heads - you got it...

I haven't seen much real world data on the Cosworth heads yet, but they look like an NA head that would work ok for mild FI as well...

Thanks, I'm leaning toward heads over sleeves for my build. I understand the increased flow will obviously lower internal stress and will make the motor so much more efficient. Which means I can get a lot more hp/torque from less boost. This will make my new motor happy.

That's exactly what I'm thinking too. I'd rather spend $2-3k on the heads than sleeves. MRC's numbers are just awesome with the HeadGames heads.

Right, why sleeve when you can get this much power/torque at such a lower psi.

On a customer service stand point Cosworth is very tight with information. Don't know why since I already bought the dang heads.

The heads are 58cc's and below is the flow chart from cosworth. Don't know much more than that. The valve train is Ferrea oversized valves with titanium retainers. I got this info from Ferrea but never could confirm with Cosworth.

Intake Valve = 52 grams
Exhaust Valve = 47 grams
Outer Spring ID = 20.8 mm
Outer Spring OD = 28 mm
Inner Spring ID = 15.88 mm
Inner Spring OD = 20.8 mm

Another big advantage is how easy is it to get support from Dave? If you want support for Cosworth, you have to go through w/ a large international corperation. If you want support w/ Daves heads, call dave..
Ive learned that customer support is crucial for any aftermarket item, epsecially ones that cost more than 4 grand.. Also, remember that Daves shop is US based.

+1

Cosworth may have good heads (have yet to find out since I haven't finished my motor) but as of right now its hard to get solid info.

Can you give a little more details on your build? When do you expect it to be finished?

I am doing a NA high compression build with Cosworth heads. I was going to use Cosworth 11 to 1 pistons, and carillo rods and get some cams ground for me with 12.1 mm lift. Now I going with cams with 11.5 mm lift instead.

I probably will not have my motor ready until fall. I orginally wanted to have it built by first week of August. However, I started kicking around the idea of using the VQ40DE block and crank and replacing the pistons and rods. .

You do know the block on the VQ40 is taller right?? It might not even fit under the hood of a 350Z with the intake manifolds bolted up.

My engine should be ready end of month with Cosworth heads, 14 psi of boost from a Procharger and water methanol injection.

Just so I'm clear, "FI Gods"...why wouldn't you spend the budgeted amount for a build on new heads with L-19 or 1/2" studs instead of sleeves? You can run much lower psi for the same whp which lessens motor stress/headlift risk, right? What's the downside?
