from one drift turbo z to another, i'm excited for you! i've been putting off my engine build now since i can't seem to kill my engine. its been through way more than 100 tires, 1.6 bar of accidental boost ( on race gas ), and tons of abuse. 1000's of clutch kicks! i've been running 8psi consistantly for quite some time now, sometimes jumping all the way up to 10.5.

the vq motor is far stronger than everyone gives it credit for. too many people over look tuning.

Good luck with the build. And thanks for using the stock block as a "sacrificial lamb" to the FI gods. Should be interesting to read what happens. Also, def give strong consideration to using the HKS headgasket. Just a little more "insurance."

Cheston, I put up an article on the HKS headgaskets right here: http://www.cj-motorsports.com/headgaskets.htm

That should give you all the information and specs you might need. Its one of MANY tech articles i have been meaning to put up on the page but I just havent had time to do them all. I figured the HKS headgasket information would be worth sharing immediately.

We just got two in stock, if anyone needs them. http://www.forgedperformance.com/sto...cat=276&page=1
Only time will tell, but it looks/feels like an excellent design.

*Update*

ok. so we're testing the stock engine's integrity right now and getting new A/F maps for different boost pressures.

we've completed 7, 7.5,8,8.5, and 9 psi boost levels with this stock PE kit and reflashing of the ECU.. looks like i'm almost to the point of maxing out the PE's stock 380CCs..
and for some reason my HKS EVC is having trouble holding boost to redline, it'll hit the desired boost level and then drop back off- grrr....

my Torque #s are way higher than HP. which is good- thats what i want.... but now the next issue is the MAF. e're looking into Q45/ Titan MAFs for the build up.... more updates later. we might be ditching the turbo intake piping and going a more custom route, as well as the pipe into the throttle body--

More update..

solved the mysterious boost pressure loss.. it's my intercooler/piping after the turbos.
we tapped a hose fitting into the turbo-exit pipe on the passenger side and did a dyno run, looks like boost is being sustained..and not dying off like it was before.. we're going to resign the turbo outlet pipe that goes into the intercooler (you were right Gurgen/Charles)
hopefully this will cure the sustained boost goblins...

did about 15 runs on the dyno today. time to call it quits.. more updates when i get em...

nice work! I think you'll have the highest HP in all of Club BOB

let me know if you need any help with the MAF issue... I can lend you the following for testing as needed:

Split Second MAF clamp (adjustable to whatever voltage you need)
MAF housings (3.125, 3.25, and 3.5")
or you can always re-tune with a nice sized resistor in-line I would log voltage and see where you're maxing out, let me know if you need help sizing the resistor.

Awesome update. Can you tell us how much power you were making at 9psi? Also what exhaust do you run? Usually if you have much higher TQ numbers than hp your exhaust is a restriction....

When I had my PE tuned at AAM, it also had trouble holding sustained boost pressure - part of the problem, I am sure, was a small hole in the connector to the intercooler, fixed with a new (better quality) silicon connector. Unfortuately, this was discovered very late in the day, and there was no time to dyno again to check if this was the only problem. But it does seem to me (as a novice in FI) that the PE kit could have a little better plumbing setup - esp. the final collector before the IC. And the silicon connectors are, IMO, rather thin and the opposite of robust.
