Default What cams for JWT TT?

I've read everything I can find so don't hurt me.

Youz guyz have talked me out of a SC and into a JWT TT on my stock motor. I'll be happy with 350whp or more as long as it's very reliable. (I'm not as crazy as some of you ) It's a daily driver when there's no snow.

My question concerns changing the cams. I'm an electronics type not a mechanic so what little I know about FI is from here and from the Corky Bell book.

The way I understand it is that NA (stock) cams have overlap so that the exhaust gases exiting will help suck in the charging gases. When boosting this isn't a concern (as much) because it's being forced in.

So it seems to me that with FI and overlap then there will more unburned fuel just blown through making the fuel efficiency lower than it could be by using a cam with less overlap.

If this true, does anybody make a cam with less overlap that pumps less raw fuel out the exhaust but is stock like in other ways? I wouldn't want to change the idle speed or quality and the lift should be near stock to keep from stressing the stock springs.

Tx

I don't have an answer to your cam question, but let me make this comment:

If you're happy with 350whp, then all you need is the JWT TT kit. You won't need cams. Changing out the entire exhaust system will get you right to 400whp.

My gas mileage is 29mpg on highway driving at 80-85mph constant speed.

If you're only reason for adding cams is to improve fuel efficiency, then you're wasting money...

I agree, camshafts are really costly on the labor-side. We only change out camshafts when the engine is removed and overhauled.

For your goals, I would just stick to the basic JWT TT kit, and a boost gauge/wideband AF gauge and call it a day.

Like Sharif said.....cams cost a pretty penny to get installed. With your power goals and expectations stick with the stock JWT kit, boost, egt and Wideband and you'll be a very very happy camper.

I would echo cajun style and strongly recommend upgrading the exhaust, it doesn't do much on a stock motor, but will really help the TT kit. Should get you much closer to 400 at the wheels.

I have a Borla TD, good enough?

Thanks all. I'll keep it simple. I wish Forged was close by.

I would go stock JWT kit, leave the borla and add some hi-flow cats or test pipes. That's all you need for a 400hp Z.
