Default 06 Vortech reveiw

This is for anyone considering the Vortech S/C.
I installed the kit a little over a week ago and it is awsome..
I have an 06 base M/T with about 8000 miles.
I did the install myself(ramps & jackstands) and it went really smooth everything fit and the instructions were easy to follow. It only took me about 7 hours(I downloaded
the instructions when I ordered the kit)start to finish.
The only issue I had was with the belt, and even that was not really a problem, after a couple rounds of tightening.
when I did the install I did not have a boost gauge I added it a few days later.
But I highly recomend installing it at the same time, it helps to monitor belt
slippage at higher boost. When I installed mine I found I was only making
5psi max, so I tightend the belt again and now I have 8psi.
I like many of you went back and forth between S/C or Turbo and finally
the CARB exemption sold me on the S/C. And after comparing Stillen and
Vortech I found the Vortech had a higher horsepower potential.
So after a couple weeks of use I am very happy with the results
The power is smooth and gradual much like a V8 and it pulls hard to redline in every gear. I hope this helps, I know it would have helped me.

thats the s/c i just ordered. Did you get the full kit with belts and all, or did you use a different company for componets?

Congrats. How do you like the sound at idle? I'm starting to hate it and mine's not even that loud.

Great write up Chris! Thank you so much for sharing that information. I have been trying to decide between the Vortech and the TN Single Turbo. I have decided to go Vortech and your write up help solidify that for me.

Question for ya...did you or are you going to have the car tuned, or are you just running it staight out of the box for now?

Which boost gauge are you using?

Thanks Again,
Joe

You should def get the car tuned before driving it too long. The out of the box tune on the SS is just to get started.

SC is def the way to go if you don't mind the low torque numbers.. Myself, I road in a TN Z and fell in love with it. So I had to go Turbo.

Vortech has such a good selling point for us here in CA...CARB exemption. Hard to pass up really. No turbo kit can claim that.

Joe, I am currently running straight out of the box, and it seems to run quite well. I am planing to have it tuned after i install my headers, test pipes and crawford upper. The boost gauge I bought is the Defi Link Meter BF,I also installed a fuel pressure gauge, they are really nice gauges and they look great in the nav cubby.

congrats.....great kit. my last Z had the kit on it and out of the box the A/F ratio was perfect. dynoed 347 rwhp. the only problem i had with the s/c was it melted one of my a/c lines, so keep an eye on that.

Cali sucks!!! Only reason i chose vortech. be prepared for rattle, i only hope you dont get a bad blower from the factory like i did at first. Wasn't that a hassle...word of warning, vortech doesn't run the blowers nor check them before they are shipped out. So its luck of a draw really.
